Lurching?

Post » Wed Sep 01, 2010 5:38 pm

Does anyone else experience a sort of "lurching" effect after a while of gameplay? Like you walk for a while and while doing so, the game seems to slow down every second for about half a second, and continues doing so until the game is shut down and restarted? Regardless of whether it's outside in the wasteland or inside a dungeon. If so, what is this exactly, and does anyone know what might cause it? It's not a major issue, but it is annoying and I would like to get rid of it.

You want to include the usual supporting information so that a useful response might be possible?

this is typical for reload lag when the system (RAM/HD) have a bottle neck.

There's no way of making any kind of useful guess, even, as long as the OP chooses not to get serious about the question and complete a full report.

Here are the specs for my machine:

English NA Retail copy of NV
Core 2 Duo P8700 2.53GHz
4GB RAM
1GB nVidia GeForce GTX 260M with 259.47 drivers
Realtek High Definition Audio sound card

Game runs fine for the most part, but usually this starts happening after a while of gameplay. Only happens outside, inside dungeons and buildings, things are fine. Shutting the game down and restarting it fixes the problem until a while later. Never had this kind of problem with Fallout 3 on the same machine.

Try the newer 260.99 drivers and see if they help any.

Updated the drivers, still no go. In fact, the lurching has become more noticeable and has begun to occur inside enclosed areas (dungeons, buildings, etc...) when it never happened before.

'lurching', 'lag', 'stuttering', 'micro-stuttering', these are all terms for the 'same' issue a lot of us are having. Also it appears to happen inside buildings which is slightly confusing as one has to assume that a lot less processing power is needed to generate these small interiors as opposed to large exteriors.
