Lycanthropy in Skyrim

Post » Fri Aug 06, 2010 3:35 pm

I think that the best way to turn into a werecreature would be a once a day greater power, for like 2-3 minutes or something, that allows you to turn into a wolf or (hopefuly) a bear. Along with this, i think animals that are the type of creature you turn into should be non hostile in the wild, and even fight for you if they are near. Any thoughts or comments?

nah cause then everyone would want to be one. It has to have some heavy negative set backs like uncontrollable transformations. Not only that but it would seem less like a curse and more like a spell.

Lycanthropy is a disease. It may make you stronger, but it is (or should not be) something like a superpower (barring divine intervention, like Hircine's Ring). Along those lines, why would animals in the wild fight for you? Lycanthropy does not give you power over animals. And it's unlikely that the animals would even recognize you as one of their kind. Most likely they would see you the same way non-afflicted humans see you: as an abomination.

I voted greater power, but it should be a long duration or last until slept or cancelled some way... but then again I like the diablo shifter druid.

this is what i posted on the vampire under development thread for werewolves

- being they are animals in there were form they could pack together in human form in secret covens as a form of safety
- well balanced positives and negatives of being a werewolf. ( increased speed, strength, health, and stamin , able to go on all fours and run really fast but you cant attack but transforming in from of some one and not killing them will label you a werewolf)
- perks and abilities focused on being a werewolf. like call of the wild ( you release a howl that calls wolves and possibly another werewolf to aid you. must be in wilderness) or honed claws ( your claws now ignore 10% of armour rating)
- a growing process where with time you become stronger and possibly tame you inner wolf, meaning you can control you transformations and eventually you can get it to where you only need to do once a week. failure to do so will cause i forced transformation where you will turn with little warning, which could be very bad if you are in a bad place for that, like a main story quest givers house.

The fact that "lycan" is from greek "lykos" which means "wolf".

ya and another negative could be like in fallout, where every once in a while the talon company/regulators tried to take you out, only with vampires

Todd said they are messing with Lycanthropy at the moment, but they don't want to commit to it. Cause they got to worry about Dragon-dork(Dovakiin) and stuff.

ummmmmm no

this isn't underworld vampires dont care about werewolves (unless they are being attacked by one) and if they were being attacked by one its because that were beasts are beasts! they have no agenda or plans to over throw a higher power they just kill to kill pure and simple, with out mercy or prejudice.

if there is a guild that hunts super natural creatures (vamps and were alike and i hope there is one that can also be joined by the player) then they will exploit those creatures weakness. use silver or enchanted weapons, bring vampires out into sunlight or set them on fire, track were beasts and watch them transform and kill them in normal form when they're easier to kill. they shouldn't rely on other supernatural creatures when if they are efficient and clever enough they can do it them selves.

Vampires feed on werewolves. Daggerfall confirmed it.

But werewolf hunters should hunt you.

really? hmm never played daggerfall so i wouldnt know but i could see it being done as a sport for vampires as a "ultimate game" but something i would like to see for vampires is to feed from anything.

"Werewolves are a real treat, almost decadent the tincture between human and beast. A real gourmet's delight."

But I'm sure werewolves would so the same to vampires, but since they turn to dust right after they die, it wouldn't be much of a meal.

I prefer the Lycanthropy to start out as an involuntary change every full moon and after the player has spent some "in-game" years being a lycan, they learn the ability to change at will. The experience as a lycan should come with an age progression that earns the player more related skills like smelling prey (represented by a color stream that is distinct to each npc as a scent). This skill would allow a player to track people through walls, underwater, or find food, which would coincide nicely with the idea of adding hardcoe mode. I hope Bethesda doesn't do the lycanthropy like they did vampirism in Oblivion where the player got all their skill/abilities at once. Only give us the basics at first, and let us earn the rest of our new forms.

In Daggerfall the werewolves and wereboars turned into their animal form every full moon (two moons, so every two weeks gametime) and could not transform back until they had murdered someone. That's the kind of thing I want to see in Skyrim.

I'd like transformations to be triggered by the normal full moon cycle at first, and then as you become a more powerful werewolf who is experienced and has fed enough times, you could grow stronger. Then, slowly, you would gain werewolf abilities without a full moon being present. Eventually, you could then unlock a greater power to trigger the transformation when you wanted, without the need for a full moon.

Why do you guys want to transform at will? Lycanthropy can be a curse to some and a blessing to others and it should be uncontrollable. If you want to transform at will, just get Hircine's ring..

I'd actually say that you shouldn't be able to transform at will, and the longer that you are a werewolf, the longer you should stay in werewolf form. Meaning that after a certain amount of time, you only have your werewolf form. That's why werewolves and such can be normal enemies all the time in games.

In a way I would like to see lycanthropy and vampirism or any other 'state changing' abilities to be treated as a skill that levels up the more you use it. If it is merely a greater power or spell then there isn't much depth to the concept.
If treated as a skill, especially as skills are being done in Skyrim you have a fundamental change to your character. Couple this with the new dynamic story and you can have something truly profound. When treated as a skill lycanthropy would obviously grow stronger the more you use it. Perks would allow you customize the power as well, allowing you to choose to stabilize the power or become more destructive. Either way there is a story element about the type of character you choose to play.
I'm imagining myself playing a character and there being some sort of quest or dynamic event that leaves me a werewolf. All of a sudden my character is in a truly desperate position, I'm going crazy, i don't have complete control of my body and I may be being hunted. I can choose to fight to rid myself of the curse, master it, or embrace it. The point being the more you use it, the stronger it becomes, the more - or less - control you have over it. Maybe there is no cure, you just have take the mastery path and suppress it for good. Either way, it is something that has a profound and lasting effect on your character - not merely a spell or greater power.

or better yet do a quest line for Hircine and he gives you the ability to transform at will.... a perk to being one of his champions :hubbahubba:
