Lydia and Jordis follower bugs after kidnapping...

Ever since installing Hearthfire, I encountered intermittent problems with switching away and back to Jordis as a follower. Her dialogue would suggest that she was now following me, but she physically wouldn't follow my character -- sometimes she would even just sit at the table and start eating bread all the while still saying, "I am your sword and your shield." Before I used to be able to fix this glitch by unfollowing, leaving the house, fast-traveling away, then returning to her. However, I recently fast traveled back from Solstheim with Jorids as my follower only to find that Lydia (my wife) had been kidnapped by bandits and taken to Embershard mine. I killed all the bandits and before I even found Lydia, an indication graphic said that I had rescued Lydia or completed the objective or whatever. I finally found her, but she wouldn't leave her cell. I opened it, and still she wouldn't leave. My only thought was to ditch Jordis as a follower and ask Lydia to follow me. This really didn't help and Lydia just starting walking backwards and standing into place. I basically had to push her out of the mine and fasttravel back to Lakeview Manor. She will fasttravel with me, but does neither follow or attack like a normal follower should. Now Jordis is permanently bugged where she will neither follow or attack either. My old way of attempting to fix this glitch is not working at all. I'd rather not revert to a save that had occurred before the kidnapping because I have made tons of improvements to Windstad in the hopes of moving everybody there as I think a possibility is that the Lakeview location is the source of a lot of glitches (a skeleton from a dragon I killed several months prior still remains on the property, bouncing around the grounds, and never cleaning up properly) -- Many times I can't even fast-travel there without the game freezing, hanging, or crashing.

I am running the latest patch of Skyrim and have Dragonborn, Hearthfire, and Dawnguard all installed. Any help would be appreciated.

My guess is that the kidnapping radiant questline somehow glitched the women at Lakeview manor. Rayya is there as well, so I will try her next.

Had something similar happen recently with Lydia too. Same primary house (she is my spouse) and the kidnapping thing at Embershard. The only way I was able to fix it was to have her follow me, then go unarmed combat on her until she turned hostile. I brought her back to Embershard before going punching dummy on her, but I doubt that matters. One thing to keep in mind, she continued to attack me once she went hostile until I left the mine. She walked out normally and returned to Lakeview Manor. I also had a bounty of 40, but she has acted normally since.

Thanks for responding to my post dude. My solution to this problem was a bit more elegant and simple than your complex, improvised method. I was so frustrated, I just went back to the save right before rescuing Lydia (unfortunately the kidnapping quest had already started and I hadn't done a hard save for at least 2 weeks before that) -- my only thought was to handle Lydia's rescue differently, so I used the "persuade" option on the bandit leader outside. She released Lydia, who actually walked up to me, acknowledged the rescue (first time), then walked home. Of course all the bandits attacked anyways, so I was still able to fulfill a husband's justice and take all of them out in many gruesome ways. Since that moment, everything has been fine -- Lydia and Jordis are both moving and following normally. I think the trigger for the glitch was a lapse in programming code that accounted for a player mowing everybody down as soon as he/she showed up at the mine for the rescue -- you see, my character doesn't negotiate with terrorists.

However, Lakeview Manor is still a heavily bugged location. My game crashes almost 50% of the time I fast travel there and a dragon skeleton from a dragon I killed months ago is still bouncing around the grounds. It's tough to want to move as I think it is the only way to have a home with 3 women all living under the same roof. Perhaps that's part of the bugginess -- too many NPCs in one home? Anyways, it's worth the occasional crash.
