If you smith it high enough so that it is better than steel yes she will wear it.

I don't think Lydia will wear light armor. I made some amazing glass armor and she wouldn't equip it. She'll equip ebony tho :>

I have max smithed forsworn armor *I* wear, because I like the native connotations it has to my tribal roots, and the way the hair and headdresses look are fan-TAS-tic.

But for my bodyguard and best friend, I gave her max smithed Dragonbone armor. I've never even bothered making Dragon armor for myself, and never will.

Damn. I put all my smithing perks into heavy armor, so I won't be able to make the forsworn armor superior, will I?

I can confirm lydia will wear whatever is better than her steel armor, even the other steel armor of the same AR with shoulder pads. She also unequips anything after being dismissed as your companion when she gets back to your house in whiterun. Back in steel. You just have make her follow you again then take on piece from her inventory then give it back and she will re-equip everything. Dunno if this effects all companions.

The pervy thing was a joke. I am actually doing it for similar reasons you are. My character likes only things that are rooted in ancient Nord culture and anything nature based. Hence, dragon armor is actually fine for him, but no ebony or daedric.

Next question, I haven't brought Lydia out with me for a while, and I am now at level 40 on expert. Is she going to get pwned even if she has ebony armor?

I haven't seen it, but I can't possibly imagine the forsworn headdress looking right on Lydia. She has obviously strong, Nordic-type features, and I think the dreadlock-tribal hair thing on her would look absurd. On most Redguard (that's what I play) and a few other specific racial members, it looks good.

I'm not claiming a fact, just an opinion... :o

She is sporting glass in my game. She does prefer Ebony, but she ain't getting any of it.

When you buy a home, there may be some mannequins in there, which are NPCs that don't move. You can put armor or clothing on them for display.

Smithing will allow anything to get to legendary status if used with the proper enchantments, the thing is if you have perks in the particular types, glass, elven, etc. the ability to get to legendary will require a lower smithing skill level. Say you are a master and have a fortify smithing of 100 total on your armor, you can make any armor legendary, regardless of the perks being there or not.

If on PC:

  • Give Armor to Lydia
  • Open console (~)
  • Click Lydia so her ID is showing at top of console
  • enter the following: equipitem 000d8d50

If you are on a DRM Box of some sort follow these steps:

  • Go purchase a PC for gaming

Good luck!

There are additionally different grades of Legendary based on your smithing skill, so having 200 smithing and having the perk will get you a greater increase than a non perk legendary upgrade.
