In my game Lydia is a pile of ash outside the Hall of Attainment. One of the mage's from the college kept her alive to fight the dragon, then after realising the zombie groans were coming from her she imploded into a pile of ash! I thought about reloading, then thought sod it, this is the way it was meant to happen, so be it?

Yeah, that's an odd and twisted approach: nobody but you can actually kill your follower. I wonder what line of reasoning they were using there.

I ended up marrying the companion you get at Riften. He'll be staying at my Whiterun house forever, yes sir! No adventuring for you!

Lydia, too, shall stay with him.

The only companion I had that got killed was the Dark Elf from the Whiterun tavern. Killed at Bleak's Fall Barrow.

Could you guys imagine having Fawkes as a companion? that would be crazy! would break the game of course... but Fawkes would be too cool.

Nah I killed them both first time I saw them, charon and fawkes, I hate ghouls and mutants ;)

Seriously, why is everyone on this board all over Lydia? I thought she was just very annoying.

I dunno why some people here, treat Lydia with so much hate like she was the Adoring Fan or something, maybe that's it, some people just miss the Adoring Fan and take it on Lydia

Yea it does seem the biggest hazard my companions face is me :toughninja: :woot: :toughninja: I just take care and make sure to heal them up with the healing hands spell or whatever its called. I have yet to kill a companion but a few times i was expecting a sword in the liver after "accidently" clocking one of my female companions in the face with a dwarven mace. Ouch! Thats gotta hurt!

I once killed Lydia while fighting a Frost Troll. I drug her body all the way back to the Khajiit camp at Dawnstar, and then I broke down and had to reload. :cryvaultboy:

I never liked her... She sits in my bedroom and stares at me sleeping.

Uthgarde the Unbroken has proven herself to me on an epic bear hunt in the Pale and is my main follower.
I also like Golidor (or whatever his name is) who hangs out at his family tomb.

I tend to use a few different followers, use whoever is close for a while then send them home when the mission is complete (whatever that may be).
I would never reload after a followers death either, dead is dead for them... they become another part of my legend. :D

But Lydia?

No... the only time she'll die is with my hammer splintering her skull... Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow... but someday, someday.

I love Lydia. I want to marry her, but the dialogue option has not appeared yet (I'm level 17). Is that normal? She has died quite a few times and I've always reloaded, since without her I usually die too.

I've decided to give Mjoll the Lioness a try for a bit, since I found her favourite sword and she has a nice voice. She's not as pretty as Lydia, but she is one good fighter. And she seems to like me, but my heart belongs to another...

EDIT - Just re-read what I wrote. :blush2: Maybe I need to take a break for a bit...

I am always killing my companions in Alfrand and Blackreach. Keep knocking them off massive cliffs and ledges. Most of my companions have died because they got in the way of an ice spike or a shout.

YES, I DID DENY HER HER HONORABLE DEATH...

It's funny how we get attached to some companions. There's something endearing about being in a hopeless, chaotic battle, and looking over to see them taking on multiple enemies on your behalf. I had Jenassa at my side through many a dungeon. I even upgrade and enchanted a pair of Orcish swords for her to use during her dual-wielding ballet of death. I was enjoying her Dunmerian accent, and the way she refereed to me as ‘Sara,’ when, at the Throat of the World, tragedy struck. During the epic battle with Alduin she was taking a lot of fire. Whenever I saw her drop to a knee I would redouble my efforts to drawn Alduin’s attention. But when the smoke cleared and the battle was won I looked for her by my side, but she was not there. I found her laid flat out in the snow--my heart sank. Was it worth it...? War is hell. At least she died a hero’s death, I thought--the way she would have wanted to. I took some time to lay her body in front of the Word Wall--her final resting place. Then took her swords (now known as the ‘Swords of Jenassa‘) to be displayed in my house as a memorial to a fallen comrade--that was the plan anyway.

I turned the game off for a breather and felt strangely melancholy at her loss... death is so final. So, I did what most gamers do and reloaded to fight the battle where she survives.

She is currently safe at the Drunken Huntsman. Where she will stay for the foreseeable future.

Awesome stories from everyone! Im glad Im not the only sod feeling guilty out there heh.

I just had to refight a blood dragon atop some mountain ruin because Lydia got incinerated... Well Im not sure if she was dead... Heres how it happened. I was at a word wall near the top of a mountain but the wall was guarded by a vicious blood dragon that could bake me inside my expensive plate armour in a single breath attack. It took off from its perch and began raining fire down upon us. The dragon kept switching between which of us it would attack and while I managed to find shelter behind a handy stone pillar Lydia, being the balls out crazy warrior type that she is, would just keep bum rushing it with her Orcish greatsword. I saw Lydia blasted to her knees several times but each time she would pick herself up, fearlessly crying something along the lines of "Today is the day you die Dragon!!". Meanwhile I kept poking my head out from behind the pillar to fire off an arrow or two. Lydia was taking a real beating and soon her brazen taunts turned to pleas for mercy... And then the dragon landed and started chomping down on her... Crushing her with its massive tail... All the while I remained behind cover... peppering it with arrows... And then she went silent. And suddenly the dragon was only attacking me... I continued my strategy, hiding in cover and whittling away at its health between breath attacks... But I couldnt shake the feeling that Lydia was dead...Why else would she have abandoned the battle?

So with the dragon at about 1/4 health I reloaded my game, sent Lydia home before starting the fight and redid the whole thing. Actually succeeded on the 3rd try too!

Anyway, heres to our Npc companions!! :foodndrink:

I learned early that Lydia and mages do not mix. I love to play with fire so I always cast a flame atro to get enemies attention and throw fire runes and fireballs all over the place, since its immune to fire I don't kill it. With a follower I had to reload way too often since I haven't the heart to let them stay dead. So my house carls are playing house while I burn down Skyrim.

My archer had the perfect sneak shot on a mob when Faendal walked in front of my shot. 3x damage + critical strike = 1 dead elf :(

I've never shed so many tears over the death of pixels as I have in this game. It hurts to even think about how many times I've killed my best friends or wife in this game. I did kill Sven on purpose, though. I was trying to be an assassin type character, and he was constnatly blowing my cover. After I was sneaking up to a necromancer, Sven just started shooting arrows at everyone, blew my cover, and after it was over I was almost dead, and he was crawling around injured. I walked up and said, "This is the last time you ruin this." And he went quietly that night with my dagger in his back.

I make her stay at home where its safe.

Same here. Plus, her charge in and attack method doesn't go well with my stealthy archer technique. I know she is supposed to protect me, but it felt like just the opposite to me. Figured she was better off left at home.
