Lydia refusing to carry any more of my burdens?

Post » Mon Dec 12, 2011 8:23 pm

This is quite saddening to be honest...

My Lydia and I have been at it all day every day since I started my very first character on launch night. She has always been at my side and really provides a nice companion for my Jack of Many, Master of none type character. But unfortunately I think I have broken Lydia's back from all the "Burdens" I have her carrying around.

Whenever I go into the trade menu with lydia and try to give her something the button has no effect. Im on the PC and I have the 360 controller hooked up and its been working flawlessly from day one, I tried disabling the controller and trying the KB and M but with the same results, the R key does nothing...

I know it has nothing to do with her carrying to much, because we just came through a city and I cleared both of our loads of junk. Plus I actually discovered this glitch while showing my nephew lydias face by removing her helmet, but she wouldn't take it back...

Ive restarted my game several times, replaced both INI files with fresh ones to no avail. Loading a previous save from quite a ways back shows lydia refusing to take by burdens retroactively...

Has anyone else had this problem?

I suppose I am going to start a new character... Any Ideas?

Maybe you pissed her off for real somehow. Dismiss her as a companion and re hire her

You mean no more? "I am sworn to carry your burdens, my Thane". That is just, wrong.

/edit
btw, pure stealth.

At the RPG Watch forum a poster mentioned that sometimes Lydia's inventory dupes items, especially if you trade off between other followers and then get Lydia to accompany you again. You can check on this by opening the console, clicking on Lydia, and typing showinventory. The poster mentioned 'his' Lydia was carrying 35 Orcish bows. I don't know how you'd get rid of the excess, maybe the player.removeitem commmand ?

no she still says it, it brings the inventory screen up... but when I press the button to give on something, nothing happens... No sound, No Text, No Whining "F*** You im not carrying that!"

she just smiles... and then says LEAD THE WAY....

"B**** I need you to have your d*** helmet on so you don't get domeshotted by the next crackshot bandit around the bend!"

If you're playing on PC: The patch broke the 360 gamepad controlls on the PC. Thankfully a modder made an unnoficial patch to fix this, which you can find in the PC sub-forum.

Also, the patch seems to have severely nerfed Lydia's carrying capacity. She seems to barely be able to carry anything now.

Im not patched up... I backed up my EXE and I am playing straight from the EXE bypassing STEAM altogether although sadly without playtime tracking or cheevos...

It's a bug.

Well somehow I misread the OP. If its not a carry weight issue or bug then I don't know.

hmmm interesting...

I went to my latest save, took everything in lydia's inventory away (Serves the C*** right...) and used the show inventory command...

Heres what it showed...

It has her stock armor (would be nice to take those away from her so you can force her to use other armors weaker than default steel armors for RPing)

but also these BAD EDITOR ID entries... maybe those are the culprit?

Still no closer to fixing it...

I just hope it doesn't carry over to my new character when I make it...

Tried what that bug description prescribed... No dice... Although it is pretty cool to see Lydia with no weapons, just a shield and her arms up like a boxer... Possible RP fun there...
