My lydia returned!

Post » Thu Dec 15, 2011 7:02 am

Anyone know why it took a week (real week) of play to get my Lydia back after she got herself lost in a dungeon? I spent hours using the wait command and she never returned to the castle or breezehome? All of a sudden I go to breezehome and she's upstairs?

She was in another game. Didn't you know, there is only one Lydia.

She has to spread herself around millions of games, a lot like Father Christmas!

You did technically leave her butt on the side of the road to walk all the way home...that might have been a long way...:(

If they are like the New Vegas followers, after a couple days waiting somewhere, they'll return to their default location. In Lydia's case, Breezehome.

Probably, when the game world resets, your lost followers reset to their default location. So ... how did she feel about you having cheated on her with other followers?

Being a Lydia fan myself, i'd say congrats to finding Lydia back.
I never go into any dungeons with her. My Lydia. My Protector.

Other players aren't so lucky lol

Lydia has been good to me, and she better be. I have fought Red Eagle four times, just to make sure she stayed alive in the end.

Back when Lydia was still alive, she ended up in a fight that wouldn't end. It was on my first trip to meet the Greybeards, well before even reaching Iverstead. Through a misunderstanding we ended fighting a group. The leader, I guess, was fighting Lydia while the rest eventually kept their distance from me. She bested him and he yielded. We start to walk away when he attacks her. She beats him again, but doesn't kill him, and the process repeats. I this repeat for 20 minutes before leaving. I suppose I could have stepped in and killed him, but they seemed to be having fun. They weren't there on my way back to Riverwood, but I found her waiting for me at the Whiterun house.

All you have to do is fast travel somewhere and they'll be right there with you when you arrive at your destination. I bring Lidya everywhere with me so she can help carry stuff back. She can't die unless you kill her by accident yourself.

Were you waiting in the town itself? This sometimes glitches the game. Next time, leave town and return or wait outside the town and then enter.

Yeah, sadly she can. I just lost her in a fight with a dragon. There she was shooting off arrows, next time I looked - dead. :( I now have to decide whether to reload an earlier save and keep her away from Frost Dragons, or let her rest in peace. She has been good to me and she does keep Aela company in my Whiterun home when I am away.

I beg to differ. She managed to get herself killed fighting a mage while I killed her underlings.

Yes, it's a common misconception that only you can kill her. That is because when she is almost dead, she drops to her knee; doing so drops all her aggro on nearby mobs. So, it's usually the player that kills her, on accident of course, because the enemies stopped attacking her. But it doesn't mean only you can kill her; just because the enemies stop attacking her when she takes a knee doesn't mean she can't just as easily get killed by stray magic, poison, or area effect from enemies as easily as by your sword.

She can also be killed by area effect from you, even if you are not attacking. For example, if she goes down on a knee right by one of your destruction runes and then an enemy triggers the rune, bye bye Lydia.
