I gave Lydia two fantastic ebony swords. I took away every other weapon she had, so it was just the two swords. Her armor is working fine, she's wearing some upgraded dragon plate just as I had hoped.

But... she has two ebony swords... two. You know what she does? You guessed. She wields one of them and pulls out her cheap rusty iron shield for the other hand. Oh my god. Put that crap away please honey and pull out the nice equipment I gave you.

You know, this wouldn't even be that bad except the only reason I gave her two swords in the first place is because I saw her do something funny yesterday. She was carrying my pickaxe and wood axe and no other weapons. I forgot to give her something, so she just had those two things and all her other default stuff. So we get into a fight and you know what she did? She pulls out the axe in one hand and the pick in the other.

So there I was, thinking "Sweet! Lydia dual wields! I need to get her some decent blades!"

Oh no. She only dual wields if her weapons are crap. And she feels like it. And it's Thursday morning and she had oatmeal for breakfast. Or something. ...Wtf..

try 2 different weapons

Lydia was using a 2h Orc axe that I gave her for a long time.

Then I gave her a Staff of Electricity and she wielded that with a sword she picked from her inventory. You can get her to dual wield, it just seems maybe they have to be different?

I have given her steel armor and as far as I can tell, she uses her stock armor.

Try a follower whos skilled in two handed weapons because her skills are heavy armor, one-handed weapons, archery, and block.

Edit: I know dual wielding is considered one handed but still it's worth a try.

That was such a good thought, I just tried it. It's not the case. I've given her a couple different sword combos including foresworn swords, ebony swords, and dawnbreaker.

She likes dawnbreaker, but that's about it. No dual.

Her skills are Heavy Armor, Block, One Handed and Archery.

I want to give her the Bow of Nerf...I don't know how many fights I've come out of with a bunch of arrows in the back of the head.

She will always use a shield if you giver her 1H weapons because she has a shield in her default setup. svcks you can't outfit your companions to your preferences.

She picked the magic staff over the shield. She was using that for a while with a sword.

Lydia pissed me off.. so I went all FFFFFFUUUUUUUU on her and blew her off the highest cliff I could find..
