Mace Warrior

Seems how many people have thoroughly figured out this game, I thought it was best I came here to ask about a build I'm starting today.

Concept - Shield / Mace focused / Heavy armour / low to no magic

I'm thinking on going Orc or Norn.. not sure actually I would prefer to be human.

My main concern is where I should spend perks I'm assuming spending the points into:

Block
One Hand
Heavy Armour

Not quite sure what else would be beneficial to me probably smithing.

I've played around with this play style already while getting a feel for the game but I started a new one so I could focus more heavily on this type. One of my main concerns was the lack of good mace finds in the early game.

Other than that I'll probably join the Companions guild again as they seem to be Warrior focused. I also like the wereform, and seeing how I don't wish to be using much magic wereform makes sense and gives me some variety once a day.

Thoughts, concerns, etc.

That's the same character I'm playing. I'm level 34 and I've focused on 1handed, heavy armor, block, and smithing. For 1handed i got 5/5 Armsman, Fighting Stance, 3/3 Bone Breaker, and Savage Strike. You can get the other power attack perks if you want but most of the time my stamina is spent shield bashing so I chose not to. In block I like all the perks except Quick Reflexes, it's not that hard to mis-time an opponents power attack. Heavy Armor I went 5/5 Juggernaut then all the perks on the right side. Smithing is obvious to go right if you use heavy armor. With my perk selections I still have enough points to get 5/5 Enchanter and all the way up the middle tree of enchanting.

As far as finding a good mace, I use the Mace of Molag Bal and have had it since my early teens in levels. I have it upgraded to "exquisite" and it's just as good as a "legendary" Daedric Mace. If you want to know how to get the mace let me know and I'll tell you. Don't wanna spoil it and I don't know how to do the little spoiler thing lol

I'm doing this now on my initial run through. Smithing is critical, as you can then make and improve your mace. I'm working with an Exquisite Dwarven mace now. There are also two sets of perks within one-handed that favor maces or swords, so if you take the mace path, you can take the mace perks to enhance your ability. They allow you to ignore some of your opponents armor when using a mace.

You can use steel armor till the end game if you upgrade it, and upgrade your block and heavy armor skill.. if you do so, you only have to unlock the steel smitting to upgrade your armor.

I also did this till i found me some Ebony armor.

But i like the steel armor the most, i think it looks badass with the bare arms.

Yessss, yessss by Sithis and Molag Bal yesss. While this Mace is particularly evil it is also undeniably awesome to strike down your foes and absorb their souls. The quest to get it is fun too. However for a wholly 'good' character you might want to give this one a miss. To use it is to submit to the will of Molag Bal and reap the world of mortal souls to fill his corrupted plane of oblivion!!!!!!

Concentrate on just 3 skills early on, upto level 10 or so. 1h , Heavy armour + Block. Put your perks into those relevent skill trees, and then just dabble with Smithing as you go along. No point having a well crafted weapon if you havent got the skills to back it up.

I am thinking that dual wielding maces for an assassin would be fun.

It's actually quite difficult to avoid power attacks against two-handed NPCs in melee range on anything higher than Adept. The range is 1.5x - 2x that of what the player can get with the same weapon, and often you'll go into instant kill animation from six feet away.

I'm curious as too how important the race selection is for this build. I mean, orc fits perfectly, but I hate orcs. I'd much rather a human.
