Machinima-bility (able to make movies using the Skyrim engin

Post » Sat Sep 25, 2010 2:10 pm

For years now I have been making Oblivion machinimas only because my PC is able to handle Oblivion pretty well, but I go to find out that my PC cannot handle Fallout 3 at that game's recommended specs and is not able to handle Fallout New Vegas at all, so now I know that my PC will not be able to play Skyrim at all! And guess what? My PC is built to where it cannt be taken apart and upgraded since it has everything compacted and built right into the monitor portion (kinda like a laptop almost, except the keyboard and mouse are separates), so guess what? The only way I can play Skyrim is on an XBox 360 when the game comes out in November 11th of this year! And I made myself a deal that I'm not gonna be left behind on any SKyrim machinima video making race once the game gets released! So I'm hoping to god that Skyrim has a Machinima movie making mode (cinema) for the XBox 360/PS3 (similar to how Halo 3 and later Halo games and Deus EX and a number of these other games made after it did it for the XBox 360/PS3!)

I'm hoping they focus on making the game a good game, and not on making it into an amateur moviemaking kit. Call me crazy, but that's just the way I roll.

Hey, all it takes for Machinima making is good camera angles, animations, ability to press a button to have the fly-cam mode, and ability to clone your character and and re-make your character's looks in the game world (plus the ability to have a greenscreen room you can go into by the press of a button (or code)! Everything else (scenery) is already a big giant world set!

How do you think Oblivion machinima's were made (even though it was only possible on PC version and required a number of user made mods and ~ commands)?

I agree, this isn't even something the developers should think about when making a game. If Skyrim machinima is important to you, I think you're probably going to have to be satisfied with whatever quality your pc can give (and to wait for mods that allow it).

Don't know why would anyone want to edit videos on consoles...

But what if my PC cannot even run Skyrim even on minimum recommended settings? Heck, My PC can barely run Fallout 3 (only able to run that game on minimum settings) and completely unable to run Fallout New Vegas! And guess what? My PC is un-upgradeable due to the motherboard and all the other parts being built right into the Monitor (kind of like a laptop) and I don't even have the thousands to pop towards a new gaming PC that can run the latest games made today!

consoles will not have console commands (ironic) so there will be no fly camera, or anything like that

Not edit videos on the console itself (100% impossible to do, btw) but record the footages from the console's A/V onto a PC A/V recording program like Audacity!

They could still use the silver "x" button on the center of the X-Box 360 control pad, thus bringing up some kind of menu and have it used to type in special codes/cheat codes to do the stuff like fly-cam and walking in air for example(if Beth. decides to program it that way for Skyrim on the XBox 360) I don't know how it could be done for the PS3, though, as I'm not familiar with it's control pads!

That button is completely reserved. Same goes for the middle PS3 button. Can you name a single game that has used it? Didn't think so.
It's just something that will never realistically happen. You'll have to start saving up for a new PC.

I would like the feature. Probably couldn't be done on consoles, but for PC it would be nice. It wouldn't require a whole lot of effort on Beth's part.

No, machinima doesn't just look for good camera angles. They look for interesting videos whether that is something cinematic like you have described or commentaries. Just play the game, record it and add commentary. Have fun with it. If the video is fun then they will probably select it. I agree with Alois that the game should not be focused around working well with camtasia or fraps. The game should just work well for us. If it happens to run well and smoothly with other programs running then by all means but It isn't my main focus that is for sure.

Judging by the dragon fight in the trailer, the creation kit will have camera animation tools. Perfect for machinima.

I'm hoping for Orcblivion for Skyrim, Orcrim.

One of the features they should only do if they have a LOT of time on their hands which i am sure they dont. I dont really feel the need for this feature anyway.
