Madd Leveler and Absorb Magicka?

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 3:21 am

hi,

i searched forums, google and the readme but found no explanation on this.
when i level up my character with constant absorb magicka clothings on, the added bonus stats are getting absorbed

do i need to get naked now everytime i want to level up, or do the stats get added anyways?

some clearification on this would be much apreciated!

edit: there is no madd leveler topic on this forum, or is there one?

Madd leveler can get a bit wonky with fortifies and absorbs especially with the CodePatch. The easiest thing is to remove CE items but that doesn't always work. Have you tried using MLreset spell? That always works for me with fortify errors, never used it with absorbs though.

There hasn't been a ML thread for a long time, maybe years, at least I don't remember seeing one.

Damn, I was looking forward to trying Madd Leveller. It seemed the least buggy and intrusive of the various alternative levelling mods.

Why not use it? I do for most of my characters (a few with GCD) and have no problems at all. As I Mentioned above, maybe not as clearly as I should have, a problem that can be fixed with the included ML reset spell is not really a problem.

I've been quite happy with ML for most characters, especially "cross-class" types like archers, explorers, hunters, etc., while I tend to use GCD mainly for "class-focused" characters (Fighters, Mages, Thieves). The only negative point that I have a problem with is that it's a slight "level accelerator" over vanilla. I don't mind that at L1, but it seems to happen a little more quickly than I would prefer at higher levels.

I think that depends on how you build your character. If you put the skills you actually use in major/minor, it won't be much different from vanilla but if you train a lot of misc skills, your attributes will go up fast; a little like powergaming with all 5's each level. My long term average attributes per level (in many, many games) is about 10.5 per level.

i played with GCD for years (i always only play mages) but when i discovered madd leveler i was very happy with it! finaly i need to sleep again to level up :celebration:

but i like to have a answer wether the bonus points that get absorbed by my constant "absorb magicka" effect are gone for ever, or if they get added anyways?

the "madd leveler reset spell" is not giving me stats back that got absorbed, or does it?
the stat bonus that you get when leveling up a skill for 3 times is handled like a spell, and this spell is getting absorbed - guess its a bug and i need to get used to it?!

How does a CE absorb magicka work? I thought it had to have a target (unlike spell absorption). When you say it's absorbed, do you mean that you don't get the attribute bonus?

edit: the spells are actually curses. They were changed early on so that Atronachs wouldn't absorb them.

I'd like to correct a comment about madd leveler I made above. In combination with the latest CodePatch it is broken if your character has absorption. I recently made a Breton/Atronach and had considerable trouble recovering from fortifying intelligence. That somehow triggered an attribute raising problem similar to what was described by the OP. I had a similar character with an early version of CodePatch and had no problems after selecting the proper optional features but now nothing seems to fix it including removing madd, repairing and reinstalling.

Sorry to mislead. I was surprised myself. On the other hand, I have longterm Lady and Apprentice characters that have been trouble free with the same combo.

Will it be possible to script a fix for this mod that works with the newest Code Patch, or is it now effectively broken? Oddly enough a Breton/Atronach was exactly what I was thinking of trying next...

yes you should be right about mcp ... i only use mcp&mge and no other mods so it must be some option in mcp.
but i have madd leveler installed for the first time when i allready had mcp running, so i was not sure wether its caused by mcp or madd itself.

we should test this further and report to hrnchamnd when we know wich feature from mcp is causing this.

thx for the info fragonard!

I'm afraid that this may not be solvable in a reasonable way; we had a discussion on this subject about a year ago on the MCP thread and it seems the way Madd handles things is a problem for the way MCP works. Originally, it seemed to be just a matter of not selecting the restore attribute improvement on the old MCP but now it's beyond that.

I am thinking of switching everything to GCD now. I already have about half my characters using it but tend to avoid it for some mixed focus ones. Simply by raising the skill influence offset and maybe the skill slowdown, you can make a version that is pretty much like vanilla but automated. Of course, there will still be the lower health but experienced GCD players know how to get around that with certain endurance boosting techniques. I tried this out last night and it seems to work as I expected so with some sadness after 7 years of use, I think it's over for MaddLeveler and me.

If you want to try modifying GCD, the Gals Customize script is very well commented and I can give you some suggestions since I am very familiar with it.
