Made for PC or Consoles?

Post » Sun Oct 03, 2010 3:28 pm

I anticipate playing on console, so I'd prefer a game optimized for consoles as opposed to one optimized for PCs. Some might prefer a compromise between the two, but, what can I say? I'm selfish.

imo, everyone that is crying out 'he consolez bashded moi :o' needs to realise that its not a personal attack, its generally people that are fed up that game developers are making games designed to play on 5 year old hardware

Everyone calm down!

Listen: PC's have progressed past where the gaming industry is at at the moment. They are creating graphics cards and processors that are way more advanced than what you will find in a console. Unfortunately that is not where the gaming industry is at at the moment. It is not the consoles that are holding back the games, it is the consoles that are driving the industry at the present time, and we are at about midpoint of the current gen.

PC hardware will keep on being produced, one better than the next, year after year, they are making a lot of money from it. But for now it seems for games that are multi-platform you only require a rig from 2007.

Just remember everyone without all of the platforms we would not have this game, we would not have this forum, and we not be having this conversation.

that was really about idk 2-3 times since they forgot to add part of the word for some reason O_O not ALOT of times really

Ok than tell me how did I get viruses when I never used that side of the computer? I stopped looking up the more "indecent" sites just to test this theory out for a week on my mac side even and only went on sites like this or at the time gametrailers.com so how did i GET viruses hhmmm?

possibly from a usb that was plugged into a network that had a virus, thats a very common way

That's exactly the point. Once consoles are released, they don't get better until the next one is released. In the meantime games have to adapt to work on that static technology, whereas PCs keep on evolving.

So why is everyone up on the consoles and stuff than> so ya it can't evolve at all due to limitations so why keep on bagging on it? Since they have shown screens for what looks to be the 360 than I am summing it was made for the 360/PS3 n will be ported to PC and the like

What do you mean USB? Like a USB drive?
If so I didn't have any usb memory card or anything plugged in, the only thing I had it plugged into was the charging cable for the laptop...
Why can't you just understand that and why are we bickering over stuff like this, people are selfish we mostly like one system at a time, for one user it is the PC and another is the 360/PS3

I think part of the problem with console vs PC si that the platforms pay developers incentives. This is evident in DCL's being exclusive to one platform or another even though the game is released on all platforms. The problem arises I think mainly with microsoft where their PC/Windows divison is not talking to their XBox divison. They talk ablout DX11 which is great and try and build up games for windows but seem to try and sabotage themselves. They used to push PC gaming so much but this has fallen off. They have made some recent attempts to get back into PC gaming but it is not enough and their efforts are 1/2 hearted - suhc as their web version of Steam (old games at high prices needing an XBOX live account to log in).

My opinion is it should be Made for PC. If it is made for PC It will be a better game, being that more can be enjoyed from it. When the Game is made for Consoles , it is like working with a handicap , It takes away from the quality and enjoyment. But... Honestly it will most likely Be made for Consoles, Because Bethesda Does want to Make money, and not be poor. PC Gaming is the best.

Do you for real need to start this [censored] bull [censored] again?!!!

Ok so you don't need to spend thousands but hundreds yes, hell I had to give someone $80 just to get a better HHD.

About the viruses thing: My brother works in the computer field and editing area, mostly in movies and [censored] but has to do with ALOT of computer stuff, he is on the computer ALL DAY and he even says that you can get viruses JUST by having a basic internet connection, I tested this: I had installed on my mac (a computer known not to get viruses of any kind or none that atleast show up on scans) and I installed Windows 7, I had Windows 7 U installed on it than went back to my mac side of it thru boot camp, so I was off of the Windows side for about a week, I come back on and BOMB i have a [censored] load viruses...so yeaaaa....

im glad that you see that its only hundreds now for gaming PC.........which is what consoles cost......in the hundreds.

if your like the other mac users i know, im betting you didnt have any AV programs running at all and probably not even a firewall. mac is only the brand of the computer. if you have windows installed on it its the same windows on a regular PC and you should have AV and firewall if not, then you deserved those viruses. as the above poster said you only get viruses "just by having a connection" either by networking with a system that has them already which sounds like the case with your brother or if someone is actively attacking your IP. viruses have to be sent and received they just dont magically appear on your computer out of thin air.

thats what I mean like thats why the 360 is not FASTER than the PC because we can not improve upon the hardware like PC users can by installing new stuff

Even when the 360 and PS3 was released it was still not the "TOP" of the hardware. Sure better then the average PC. But it was not the best. And yes thats the entire point im trying to make. Consoles are limited by the hardware and thats why it cant get better and need to run on lower textures, res, fps, models, edges, blurr and so on.

All I and MANY other PC gamers want is that the game is made for BOTH the PC and the consoles.

Give the PC users:
*A PC interface that is easy to read and use and made for a keyboard.
*Smooth gameplay / controls with keyboard and mouse
*Settings, hotkeys (changeable), graphics settings (that we can scale past the consoles or lower depending on the strength of the computer), options well you get the point.

Then we will most likely endup happy.

Generally, Oblivion had all of the above. (excluding the horrible interface)

I have Oblivion on both PC and 360, and when I run OB on max, it looks MUCH better than the console versions. Plus draw distance is improved.

I don't see it being any different for Skyrim. Other than maybe an improvement on the UI.

I agree. I have no issues with games being released on multiplatform, bu games need to be tweaked to ensure the best gaming experience for that platform and not just a lazy port with minimal effort. Multiplatofmr games allow for bigger budgets and generally a higher quality game. As a point BFBC2 was awsome on PC but is actually originally a console game and #1 was console exclusive. It si optimised for PC and looks much better than its console counterparts.

I know but lately devs tend to release multiplat games half-heartedly with the overall same limitations on the PC as the console. So thats why i said all of the points and not just the UI.

I cry everytime a PC game dont have so you can change hotkeys, settings, require lots of button presses just to get to the Inventory or character page... Or when "space" have 3 things bound to it.

Consoles are not holding things back.

Consoles are pretty strong, and so are comps. Granted, Comps are stronger, but the industry is not ready to move in that total graphical mess yet.

I know, PCs are "better." We can all agree there, and yes, I think that PCs should have better UI, but thats about it. Everything else should stay 100% the same.

God no... I dont want by todays standard to run on medium settings with 30 fps (and thats in perfect conditions) and no ability to change view distances, quality, shadows... You get the point... I wont even LOOK at the game again if they do what you suggest.

i agree. By now the hardware would be fully explored and usage maximised. The games now are as good as they get from a graphical point of view.

1. I'm pretty sure you just started this. The person you quoted was actually speaking the truth. I don't know a single person who hasn't had a recent console replaced. I've had two original xboxes and three 360's myself (only one N64 :celebration: ).
2. There is no such thing as free lunch. Consoles may seem like a bargain based on hardware vs cost. What you don't realize is that they plan on making all that money back on games. That's why PC hardware seems relatively expensive.
3. Video editing and computer knowledge are not the same thing. Hardly even close in reality. I've been in a production studio and done more than my fair share of editing. I spent half the time helping others with troubleshooting. I'd like to know what editing program your brother is using and which company he is with; I'd like to see some of his work. I sincerely hope his work is better than his basic computer knowledge.
4. Macs are not known for being impenetrable to viruses, and nor is Apple. OSX is the operating system, and is Apple's competitior to Microsoft's Windows 7. Now this is where it gets LAUGH OUT LOUT funny (caps necessary): you said that you went back to the OSX side. Remember mac isn't a side, it's the box  . You came back and found a virus. Funny part is that your entire experiment backfired. If you were telling the truth, which you aren't, then that would mean your OSX was infected with a virus and passed it the windows side.
Congratulations, you just got a virus on OSX. :slap:

And just because I can... :bunny:

Then start to know how to use them. Im sorry but MAC is know to be used by people not willing to learn PC stuff. And i agree if people wan t to have things easy.
But your MAC stuff won t help you from PC problem in windows, and a minimum must be know on PC behavior so you won t get so easely infected.

But why this virus stupidity anyway ?

Here's the thing, and since you've been a fan from the beginning then you will know this well. All platforms in all regions will have the same features to avoid as much subterfuge as possible. For the sake of argument lets say they attempt to satisfy you by providing you with a PC specific UI. Your happy now and you shut-up and go away but now in your place is someone else saying that they want that same PC style UI on the console. Where will it end? Why should Bethesda take flak from consolers when your going to get the UI you want ANYWAY.

There's obvious solution for this one: give the user the possibility to change between different GUI-configurations. Better yet, make it more modular and give more spesific options to alter it. It'll take a little more time to design the interface, but it would be worth it.

Besides, the installation and usage of Darnified UI has been turnkey since FO3. Honestly if your on a PC you have very little to complain about. Bethesda has created and perpetuated this modding community for 8+ yrs now and is making good use of it. If you refuse to use mods well that is your problem, they have given you the power.

I have no problem with using mods per se, but the principle of being forced to mod something as important as relevant parts of the UI is something that I won't tolerate well.

Not really.

Most dedicated gamers (the target audience for Skyrim) are console gamers. Most wildly successful PC games are casual or social games, like The Sims.

That's a good example of circular reasoning right there. :batman:

Here's a a couple of quotes from the linked Intel anolysis of gaming:
Today, PC gaming generates 43% of the total gaming revenue. The next closest platform is the Wii, which generated 24% of the total gaming revenue in 2009. And the PC share is growing – by 2013, the forecast is that PC gaming will represent 56% of the total pie.

What’s interesting to see is just how much larger the PC base is than any of the consoles. To tell you the truth, I really hadn’t realized how large a difference it is until I put this chart together. Enthusiast PCs are 62% of the total market, and there are 4PCs out there for every Wii, 7 PCs for every Xbox360 and 8 PCs for every PS3. Wow.

Regarding the first quote, the growth is most likely due to casual(ish) games, so you are partly right. But how about Starcraft II? EVE? Yes, it's "social game" but extremely complex, and it fares very well. Bottom line: games with good producing values and good design choices for the PC-platform generate income. Do a crappy port from a console and it's not going to sell that well, but cater for the PC-community as well and you'll have great sales.

And it was still just as complex and worked just fine.

Okay, yeah, you can't see the reasoning behind the subjective preference, but it's still subjective preference.

Actually, only part of it is subjectivity. There are several objective tests about the gaming experience which could be done, for example: how much time certain task-scenarios take on each setup; how accurately are aforementioned scenarios handled by the player, how much frustration and how the player reacts to different tasks with different platforms etc. There's plenty of objective data to be gathered. And anyone having a clue about testing usability knows what the results would be...

Wow - same argument as always.

Of course PC users want more - they pay for more in terms of the care and attention to detail that a good gaming rig can bring.

Those who settle - well that is what consoles are for.

That is not a jab but the way it is if your really think about it. But even then - nothing gets resolved with the discussion.

==========================

The devs came here and stated that they are listening to us. Fine but even scanning a thread like this is enough to not want to think about the issue. It is disheartening to hear that no one should want more or ask for more (read better for PC) just because of consoles setting any kind of standards when there are solutions not yet considered.

I like playing Mount and Blade Warband - it has a great feature - it has a setting to change which version of DirectX it uses for rendering the game.

If something like this were implemented then both parties could approach satisfaction.

Promote this idea!
