I am playing Arena. I've been hired to deliver a "Tome of Philosophy" to the Mages' Guild. I'm in the Guild hall, but the only guy inside doesn't talk--when I click on him, I only get options to buy or steal stuff. I can't use or drop the tome. How do I complete this job?

The button between spellcasting and inventory (first row, second column), is it thieving fingers by any chance? That makes you attempt to pickpocket the NPC.

Ooookayyy......I know that already. I don't want to pickpocket the guy, I want to give him a book!

It's possible it isn't the right guy. Lots of times, people for the quests end up in odd locations for me, so be sure to check every part of the Guild.

Most likely you are in the Mages Guild of the wrong city. Check your log (press the L key on your keyboard) and verify the quest.

If you are in the right town and in the right place try the following: 1. Exit the building. 2. Save the game. 3. Quit the game. 4. Start the game. 5. Restore your save. 6. Enter the building and talk to the dude and see if he doesn't talk to you then. (BTW the only person in any Arena MG is a mage. There may be multiple mages therein, but they're all mages and they all act the same.)

If nothing works, forget the quest and get another from somewhere; there are no repercussions from blowing a quest.

I'm pretty sure it doesn't matter what you want to do, if you leave it on accidentally, you'll try to do it anyway.

Check the side rooms if there are any, in Arena I noticed them hiding quest guys in unusual places in buildings.
