Magic "disappearing" Carpets

Post » Thu Sep 02, 2010 12:53 pm

Greetings all and thank you in advance for any advice. I'm sure this is something simple, but I've been just getting started with GECK. Much of it seems fairly intuitive, but for some reason, any carpets I place on any floor just don't appear in game. I can hang things on walls, place clutter and furniture, but I am living in a rug-free post-nuclear world. And while I can understand my GECK's dislike for thick 1970's pile shag green carpet, why no love for a nice oriental rug? Any advice on my how to end my Berber less existence would be much appreciated! Cheers!

Do you have room bounds? The rug must be inside the current room bound.

Do you have the rug too far into the floor? Raise it up some. It could be clipping with the floor.

Does the rug show up at all in game? You could have messed up the mesh or textures where it becomes invisible.

Thanks for the quick reply. Defintely within the bounds of the rooms and I played with raising it up from the floor to no avail. The rugs I'm using are stock and still visible in other locations in game (notably TenPenny).

Maybe this is a clue: I place the rug in a room, see it fine, save and then I go check it in-game. It's not there. When I go back to GECK, the outline of the rug is in the room, but the rug is gone. If I pull the item out of the room into null space, it reappears, but disappears if I re-insert it into the room.

Thanks again for any suggestions anyone has! Cheers

sounds to me like there is something wrong with your cell. That simply should not occur.

Are you using the vanilla rug NIF?
Did you apply your own texture to the rug? If so, how?

I do have a small rug mod that I downloaded and by disabling it, I can now see the regular game rugs. Limits choices a bit, but they aren't invisible. :) Thank you for the assistance! Cheers.
