Magic in Fallout 4

Post » Fri Jan 22, 2016 7:41 am

Before I begin here I know we should not think too hard on this stuff or the whole premise of the game quickly falls apart. But I'm going to anyway! It seems to me that Fallout 4 has a lot of magic in it. Certainly most things can be explained with "because science!".....but some just CAN'T. Examples:

1) Cthulhu stuff...like Dunwich Borers

2) Overseer's Guardian - science just can't make a ballistic weapon fire two rounds at once.....unless that weapon has TWO BARRELS.....or you can only fire it ONCE and you WILL take damage!

3) There is an abundance of clothing that has what I can only call "enchantments" on them:

Lucky hats - increase luck +1

A leather shoulder/arm piece that SOMEHOW gives the wearer +1 strength & +1 Endurance - hows THAT work?

answer?

MAGIC!

You forgot the most important one. DEEP POCKETS. How do we carry all this stuff? Forget about being over encumbered, how about Unwieldy. :D How do you just cary it?

Also when you "holster" your weapon it disappears and "magically" reappears when you want to shoot it. :P

I'm pretty sure it's Aliens, bruh.

Either that or the Fallout world takes place in the Matrix.

For Children of the Atom that could probably be a rare mutation in some humans or just advanced evolution (again, probably a mutation) OR they're in the early stage of Ghoulifaction where they aren't fully ghouls.

"Legendary": A magic system implemented to hide the fact that previous game design and mechanics existed to actually explain weapon effects.

As for me I love Skyrim magic in FO :nope:...I am really looking forward to the addition of magic staffs, spell scrolls, and My Little Pony pets that poop rad reducing rainbows in future DLCs.

If you look at the numbers you will see deep pockets is just lighter.

To be fair, nearly every CRPG has some kind of "Bag of Holding" that may or may not have a cap on just how much stuff can be crammed into it. There is seldom if ever a consideration of just how bulky or awkward the individual objects that can be stuffed in. 17 long-arms, no problem! 9 chest pieces? Again no problem! As long as total mass doesn't exceed X pounds, it all fits comfortably (and as mentioned above, invisibly). And when over-encumbrance kicks in, do hernias happen? Noooooooo. 10,000 pounds (or more) and the ONLY limitation is that the character can't run. Whoopeededo.

But in general, why is that^^? Because it is what the greatest number of players want. Don't blame the devs for making the Marketing decision to give the customers what they asked for. (And rant about if they don't get it.)

See Clarke's Third Law.

Edit: Ninja'd

Sure it does. It's just applying scientific explanations to what otherwise would be magical phenomenon. Eg: A water spell is condensing H20 molecules in the atmosphere enough to take them from a vapor to a liquid.

actually no, both pocketed and deep pocketed weigh more than the base armour without an attachment

eg leather chest armor, standard weighs 5lbs

leather chest armour, standard, deep pockets weighs 5.5lbs (and adds +20 carry weight for +19.5 gain)

pocketed and deep pocketed though if you think reality (yeah i know) is not so much you can carry more weight but you have "more pockets to store stuff" regardless of how light an item is you can only fit so many of them in your pockets, so more pockets means more storage.

imagine you have a m16 with m203 grenade launcher and you wearing normal clothes, how many 40mm rounds do you think you could get in your pockets? now imagine how many you could get into your pockets AND a military vest with 40mm grenade pockets on it

thats the way i like to think of that one anyway
