Magic from the Sky and Cosmology

From my knowledge of Tamrielan cosmology, there is no "space" as we think of space in our universe. There is Mundus, the world of Nirn. Then comes Oblivion, the empty void between Mundus and Aetherius. Oblivion is not truly empty, but is eternal, and contains the "spheres" of the Daedra Princes. These spheres are not literal planets, but are seen as much because mortals cannot comprehend infinity. After Oblivion there comes Aetherius, where the Dreamsleeve and the Et'ada reside. In his passage to Aetherius, Magnus (Spirit of Magic) created a hole in the fabric of Mundus that led from Oblivion to Aetherius, and this is what is called the sun. Other holes left by lesser Et'ada created the 'stars.' From these openings, we receive magicka.

My question relates to the text "Magic from the Sky." This text discusses Welkynd and Varla stones. These stones are supposedly made from "meteoric glass" that falls from Aetherius. I thought Aetherius was just a plane of magic, and had no earth to speak of? How can there be meteors falling from the sky if there strictly is no sky, or at least nothing beyond the sky except for void and magic?

To my knowledge, Nirn is properly a planet with an atmosphere and everything.

You can try reading some of MK's explanations of http://www.imperial-library.info/content/cosmology and the http://www.imperial-library.info/content/tower. Though I admit that I still struggle to comprehend the whole picture and not just the parts.

Aw, i love that Cosmology article. I hold it as one of my favorite TES stories / explanations/what have you. Really puts a spin on ye olde geocentric universe.

In answer to meteoric glass? I thought it was physical manifestations of magic. Magic is unknowable and all that; it showers the Mundus, and every now and then, it calcifies into cool pieces of jewelry.

[Edit: Lava, glass, ebony? It was called godsblood in Morrowind, since it came from the heart of Red Mountain, where Lorkhan fell. Kind of like that, in a way. Is it something solid and real? Is it high fantasy magic? It could be both and still work.]
