No-magic game, suggestions?

Post » Tue Aug 25, 2009 9:19 pm

I feel like at this point I've totally mastered the magic system. I LOVE the magic system in MW, always have.

So, I thought a good challenge would be to go through without using enchanted stuff, cast magic, potions, and scrolls.

I was thinking of just doing a straight up stab and run thief type character who attempts to backstab, then either escapes completely or marksmans if fails.

I would be restricted to using first list effects from reagents for healing/whatever (in other words, eating).

I was thinking of just taking a 1pt lock spell to simulate my ability to lock doors (and trap enemies).

Anyways I wanted to set some goals and would like some suggestions. Stuff like, pickpocketing famous people, stealing awesome stuff, etc.

Also if anyone has experience in a no magic game like this, id like to hear about it.

I once played an argonian who shunned magic. He lived off the land (every 24 hours he had to eat a few ingredients, etc)

I've never gone totally magicless, but I think it's something worthwhile. It's perfectly do-able as a thief too, because you don't need illusion to be sneaky, or alteration to be good at security. In terms of healing, why are store-bought potions out? Without even those, I think it could get tough quick, and there would be a lot of retreating, which wouldn't be too much fun.

P.S. Great name Mishima.

I agree. There are a few times when you have to levitate, for example. Bought or found potions are hard to do without.

From some personal experience and from some knowledge I have gained on these forums, it sounds like going completely magic-less might not be the best idea. However, if you want to do it for the challenge or a personal RP reason I say go for it!

I don't think even 100 acro / 100 strength / 0 encumbrance will allow you to jump high enough to get around levitate. If you think activating shrines is within the bounds of your rules, you can use the Shrine to Stop the Moon to enter Telvanni towers and reach certain critical points in the main quest. Barring that, you will have to just beeline for sunder and keening (kind of defeats the point). That's the only issue I can see on the MQ.

As for bloodmoon and tribunal, the hardest foes will just take a non-magical character apart. You might be able to deal with them by jumping and using a bow. That's the only way I can think of, but I could be missing something.

Well, with alchemy at 100, and as long as you're OK with eating stuff... you could always keep stores of Ash Yams in your inventory, as well as ingredients with desireable first-effects. Do the stripped-down intelligence buff. I'm sure if you eat enough ash yam, followed by enough marshmerrow, you could survive anything.... Hotkeys are your friends.

Look for the bold ingredients:

Well, yeah that's true but getting Alchemy to 100 might be a bit at odds with the no-magic ethic. I think that a no-magic Morrowind is not really Morrowind at all. Magic permeates Morrowind; every race has magic powers and everyone is constantly confronted with magic items in the form of scrolls, enchantments, potions and spells. I've played low-magic games and that can be fun for a jaded veteran player but for me that means no alchemy, enchanting or spellmaking. Items you can buy or find should be OK and that limitation makes the game a lot harder without being frustrating...IMHO, of course.

Technically, if you also refuse to use enchanted items/weapons, then you can't use ANY of the 3 items you use at the end of the game. But you can probably make an exception for that if you really want to. Or you can just not do the main quest.
