Magic Resistance: Enchantments or Alteration?

Post » Thu Jul 09, 2015 11:58 am

Hi,

I've played Oblivion very often in the past, but I started playing Skyrim only recently. My character is a Nord warrior specialized in the use of one handed weapons and block. Currently i'm level 16, but I still got 6 perk points left to distribute. I'm doubting where to put them!

While I have absolutely no problem beating other warriors I ran into some trouble when I came across mages. My plan was to take elemental protection, which reduces incoming fire, shock and frost damage by 50% when blocking with a shield. I was also considering to focus on a little alteration by taking the magic resistance perk for extra protection.

My question: Is this a waste of time and valuable perks, am I better off using simple enchantments OR is elemental protection sufficient against mages especially in combination with the Shield of Ysgramor (offers 20% magic resistance) which I already own?

Thanks!

Shield of Ysgramor+elemental protection should already do a lot.

Other ways of getting magic resist is the lord stone and the book of love quest. I really recommend the latter as it adds 15% magic resist as a permanent passive.
