Magic Spells

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 6:19 pm

Personally i dont like how spells are in Oblivion (and actually in most rpg games) they are very linear which gives the impression that you use a laser gun or something, except the conjuration of course, which was the only one that i really enjoyed - so bring your ideas!! and of course i want to add that a mage is someone who should not run a lot, have to fight or even use stealth, otherwise why he is a mage, in an invironment he should be able to just use the right spells to do the job and nothing else, i mean when i m on the highest level and i still have to watch out for arrows and swords then what kind of mage is that?!!!
To summarise, the orchestrated use of the right spells is what a mage should need to do and nothing else, no fight, no stealth

I like the water spell idea, but I want an earth spell that, when your near rock, you cover yourself with it, amking you resistant to damage but uber slow.

I think at the very least the should incorporate the four basic elements for spells, which means adding Earth, Water, and Air. Considering that its magical you don't even necessarily need to be near a source to activate the spells.

Or maybe, being near a source will strengthen it. Like, if oyur in a desert and you shoot a ball of water, it wouldnt do as much damage as it would if you were standing near a lake.

This is not Avatar the last airbender, as far as I understand spells come from the caster, and I′d not like spells coming from other places than my hands.

I think it would be cool to do alot more things with magick and not have it be another "point-click" projectile kinda thing. More of a select your target and cause them to burst into flame rather than trying to hit them with a fireball. However a good balance of projectile and unique/different spells would be nice. I'd also like to see spells that would let you make the ground come up around your enemy and crush them.

Another thing I didn't like was all spells of the same class and/or element all looked the same. A fire ball spell that did 5 damage looked the same as one that did 150points in 50ft for 30 seconds. I think the stronger the spell the bigger and badder it looks. A small lightning spell might have a single bolt shoot from your hand while a powerful one would have a hundreds of bolts rain down on top of them frying everything around them.

I was actually thinking of editing that into my post but you said it first lol

Also I want to see solid ice as a part of frost spells, like shooting icicles, or binding someone in ice.

While on the subject of spells: different and better effects for spells. I don't want the starter fireball/lightning/etc. to look the same as the more advanced versions like in Oblivion.

What I would love to see is like a "Fire Wall" or "Water Wall" that will shield us from the enemy and let us turn tail and run or that we can fire magic through and still hit the enemy.

I definitly want the dev team to re-work the magic system and the spells this time around.

Instead of elements, what about, like, transforming? Not like metamorphosis, but, like, turning the enemy into a statue, or making his weapon cheese.

I would like to see glyphs. Put them on the ground and they can act as missile defensive zones, traps, magic neutralizers, repulsion barriers, etc.

I know, but a "Wall" of fire or water would be awesome looking and that's what I would love to see.

Imagine a spell that enables you to be like water and flow through holes and get away from monsters inside a dungeon for example!!!!

Most these options were too far from TES types for me to be comfortable with personally but I did like the idea of a glyph spell one that lets you read glyphs that would be very awsome indeed.

Hopefully, Bethesda learned a thing or two from some of the magic mods that were made for OB. (like LAME and Midas Magic)
They were incredible, and if modders can do it, than Bethesda should only do better ;)

Personally I don't really care what spell effects we're dealing with, what they look like or whatever. The most important thing for me is that they're fun to play around with. Many games, including Beth's previous Elder Scrolls games simply have you select a spell and press a button. Not very stimulating. Now I have plenty of ideas for ways to make the actually spell casting more fun, but I'll save that for another thread.

Imagine a combat game where you just click on an enemy and press fight... Not a whole lot of fun if that's the only thing you can do - it's pretty much the same thing with spells imo
