In oblivion my last few mages have used restoration magics to svck the life from my enemies. It is quite effective.

I like to use conjurations to distract foes as well. Too bad the summons are so weak and short lived.

I'll use a mix of all, but Illusion is always fun.

I'd like to see how they handle spells and how perks interact with the schools of magic before i say which one.

In oblivion i use illusion, destruction and mysticism based spells the most.

Illusion and Mysticism were always my favourite schools, so my first Mage character will probably focus on Illusion and Alteration.

(I'm assuming that most, if not all, of the Mysticism effects will be spread out between those two schools)

Edit* Voted Illusion because Chameleon/Invisibility and Command/Demoralize/Frenzy are what I tend to use in a fight.

I hope they have jump/slowfall, swift swim and maybe a more realistic effect of burden (causing the affected to fall down if he's not strong enough, and outside he could fall down a slope). I'm replaying Morrowind and Alteration is now my favorite school there. So I voted Alteration.

Conjuration!

Why bother having to stop Alduin myself, I've got daedra to do that kind of work!

Being able to choose multiple option doesn't really work when you have to choose a favorite.

Also, this is multiple choice.

I always enjoyed conjuration, a little less so in Oblivion than in Morrowind (due to only being able to summon one thing at a time) hopefully this will not be the case in Skyrim, and I can summon an army to fight for me while I remain secluded in the shadows.

Thirded. I don't like "one-trick pony" characters. Versatility is key, something for every situation.

Illusion

It's the best school to support a melee combat oriented character (which I prefer) . You can parayze ennemies for some free hits, go invisible for a stealth kill, silence pesky mages, use light and night-eye to avoid carrying a torch, frenzy your ennemies...

Illusion. Mostly because its the most useful, and fun school to me. That, and I wont be able to use much magic offensively since I'll be using 2-handed swords, and Bow, and arrows. Besides, who needs destruction when you have Dragon Shouts?

Ho, ho, ho

Ahem sorry....uh yeah Illusion for me. Or alteration, but only if they let actually mess with the world, rather than just open a door or something. Like it would be cool to do stuff like in Shivering Isles, when you went to Xedilian, to kill those adventurers. It would be cool to do some of the stuff you could do to them there, like make an enemy three times bigger to scare the living crap out of an adventurer. Stuff like that. If not, then Illusion. I like to be invisible......

I'm thinking destruction, that aoe fire spell they had in the trailer looked downright awesome, though dabbling in other skills wouldn't go amiss either.

Illusion, Mysticism, and Conjuration. Those have always been the fun schools since they focus less on boring stuff like draining health or damaging HP and more on stuff like breathing underwater and summoning crazy stuff from Oblivion to kill someone.

I believe, that Destruction is the most important... If you did not have it, then their would really be no attack skills.

Restoration has absorption, Conjuration is really attacking indirectly, and Illusion is essentially a substitute to fighting.
