I don't think any TES game was on the "Mystical flying pony" side. And thank God for that.

And before someone takes that the wrong way, I was just making a joke about how we never had flying ponies.

If by mystical pony you mean surreal and and unique then yes i hope Skyrim is a pony ride.

Todd Howard has stated that he wants magic to seem mysterious, arcane...somewhat contrasting with the ancient and dated environment of Skyrim. As opposed to maybe Morrowind....which you may be interpreting as the "mystical flying pony side".

Rest assured, I believe magic will be handled tastefully in Skyrim.

I don't think Oblivion was less magical than previous games, you had less choicess. Maybe you can say less alien (horse instead of guars and so on).

I'm guessing less magic but it'll still be there often enough. I wouldn't expect as many necromancers as Oblivion had though due to the climate.

They've already said that they are trying to capture a bit more of Morrowind's alien feel. They say that Skyrim should lie between Oblivion and Morrowind in the degree of alien-ness that the game will have.

More on the realistic side than the magical I think, but they called it "epic reality" where locations look like something that could exist, but will have more Nordic Skyrim-ish uniqueness than standard fantasy stuff.

So mystical ponies will probably be a rarity.

I think this'll turn out to be pretty accurate, and also a wise decision.

I like some crazy ultra-fantastical stuff, but set against a backdrop of rugged quasi-realism it's all the more effective.

Thanks to this thread, I will be inevitably disappointed with this game's lack of Pinkie Pie.

i would like to have magic feel more magical. In OB any class could use magic effectively by taking a low-level spell and shooting repeatedly at the enemy. They should make the really useful magic a little bit harder to get

I'd like to see a morrowind level of magic. I was never a mage in oblivion, it just felt so empty.... I was always a ninja-thief-dudette although, I would often have illusion and/or alteration as a major skill.

As far as the ;and goes its between mw and ob as far as magic itself goes... it sounds like they have pumped the magic up alot.

I agree. From what we've seen and heard so far, I think it will be a pretty good balance of the fantastical and the realistic.
