Magical Overhaul Mod compatability

Post » Wed Feb 09, 2011 7:59 pm

Hi,

so...

I registered on the forums to ask a question:

is it ok to use supreme magicka, mighty magick, L.a.m.e, midas magic, pjs spell compendium and OOO?

Does anyone have experience using all of these in conjunction, if so what's the best load order?
im using the obmmanager too.., Yay Modding :D
also, is there any Reaaaaally cool mage armor?

Thanks!

Yes. I only use SM and LAME together because I am anol about balance and consistency, and MM does not fit that bill. I suggest loading SM after LAME to preserve some balance with OOO, but if you want magic to be completely overpowered, go ahead with whatever.

http://sites.google.com/site/oblivionpoinfo/finishinstall/loadorder <-- You should probably start learning about this now.

Hey, thanks a lot for the speedy reply.

You missed one from the list. Midas Magic - Spells of Aurum. It's the followup from mighty magic and is not so overpowered

It's also THE most popular mod ever on Nexus!

I did not miss it. I just did not add a link to it. I do not use that mod, and it is not more of a magic-adding mod than an overhaul. It is still quite powerful, even though it is not as powerful as the original.

yeah, i'm using it, it seems awesome :D

by the way, i'm also using 'Oblivion xp v415', do you know it?
do you know if you can adjust the xp you gain from killing mobs, because im currently getting 1xp from all mobs, but i really like the system of... manually leveling up.
do you think it has something to do with OOO etc? ty.

edit: hey, so if i use midas magic, do i not need to use mighty magic, is everything from the latter included in the former?

There is an OOO patch for that mod, right? OOO should not otherwise have anything to do with that mod's functionality.

Edit: I do not know how "official" this is: http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=23829. I suggest posting in the Oblivion XP thread instead...

only thing now is i'm getting a crash/fatal error whenever i try to quit the game, which locks up my pc, so i have to put it to sleep/standby to get back into windows ^-^
you ever come across that?

im using an anti crash mod and streamline, its not ingame, and i was getting the crashes like that without any mods too.

Cheers.

You can use (almost) everything together, but Mighty Magic doesn't work well with the other magic overhauls. It has a completely different spell system (at least the latest version) and the spell power is much, much higher than in any of the other mods too. So if you want some weird mix of spells and possibly bugs you can use all of these together, otherwise you should choose LAME and/or Supreme Magicka or Mighty Magic and any of the other mods you mentioned in combination (since those only add spells or make minor adjustments to the magic system that can easily be overriden).

You missed one from the list. Midas Magic - Spells of Aurum. It's the followup from mighty magic and is not so overpowered

It's also THE most popular mod ever on Nexus!

Midas Magic has nothing to do with Mighty Magic. It doesn't overhaul the default magic system and the author is not the same either. That's why it generally works well with other magic mods that do overhaul the system.

I refer to Midas Magic as MM, not Mighty Magick. I guess that is confusing...

@samuelthemule: Your load order is probably wrong, but a fatal error seems a bit much. What are your hardware specs? http://sites.google.com/site/oblivionpoinfo/troubleshooting/postlo too.

Midas Magic and Mighty Magic are completely unrelated. I don't use Mighty Magic myself, there used to be some major bugs in the mod. I think there are different versions available now, but I haven't checked it out. I use Midas Magic, Lame and Supreme Magicka in that order.

As for your Oblivion XP problem... do you have OBSE installed? There are also two versions of the mod, one for OBSE 17 and one for OBSE 18, make sure you are using the correct one. You don't need that patch for OOO anymore. All it did was make it so OOO's quests give you XP, the latest version of the mod does this automatically.

Try http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=22410 for your crash on exit.

http://sites.google.com/site/oblivionpoinfo/stabilization/outdatedmods Make sure you have the latest version of Harvest Flora (not the version bundled with OOO 1.33.) What are you not using that is included in OOO full, by the way?

because of the armor mod, is there anything else in full worth having?

First off, the answer to the second question is "let's drop that subject." I do not understand that first statement. What armor mod are you talking about?

Yes. See the http://devnull.sweetdanger.net/OOO/OOO_133_readme.pdf for the details. I think you can get around the armor perks by using another mod to handle your skills. I am thinking leveling mods, but there should be other mods to just handle the master perks.

I did not miss it. I just did not add a link to it. I do not use that mod, and it is not more of a magic-adding mod than an overhaul. It is still quite powerful, even though it is not as powerful as the original.

I didn't mean you, and it wasn't even missed. Man I need my eye's testing. Or is it these night shifts.

but you can do exercises for your eyes, which will make them better than they were before probably ;o

I've run into a slight problem.
i thought i finally had everything done,
and now when i try to start a new game, i get a crit error,
so i deactivated all my mods, and now it works, and im reactivating them in batches of 20, going for trial and error...

have you tried fearsome magic yet btw ?

cant find the difference and in the readme it says " The Lite version contains only the core changes of Oscuro’s Oblivion Overhaul. It can be further customized by adding one or more plugins listed under Options Only for Lite below. Using the Lite version with all of the plugins mentioned there activated is the same as using only the Full version. The Lite version consists of two plugins. "

o_O

think i fixed the crash / bug though, was because i installed the xp mod before darnified ui, and it overwrote files it needed to work.

Oh. Well, the Lite Version is not as uptodate, but you can grab the 1.33b LITE patch. It is linked on TESIV:POSItive > Downloading Mods. The Oblivion XP mod includes compatibility menu files for DarNified UI.

Cool, just downloaded it, by the way, do you use unnecessary violence?

i managed to make it work, but i got a weird green cloud with it, edit: ah, found the fix.

looks like i'm finally all set to go though, after a day of installing mods, heh.
