Magicka Immunity = Broken

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 12:40 pm

Hi again,

I have 110% Magicka Resistance, and yet, hostile spells still manage to affect me. i.e. a fireball still sometimes gets through and damages me. Is there a way to fix this, or is this somehow "intended" (makes no sense to me, but who knows)?

I have a feeling I saw this kind of thing on these boards before, mentioning something like the percentages don't refer to what you'd think they do by logic, and that if you have 50% and 60% on you simultaneously, the 60% is of the 50% or something ridiculous. Could someone clarify, please?

Thanks!

As far as I know, it does work as intended.
Keep in mind it only works on Fire, Frost, Poison, and Shock spells. All other spells hit you with full force.

You mention a Fireball, but perhaps in the midst of battle more than one spell was affecting you.

EDIT: oops, I got Magicka/Spell resistance mixed up.
Logorouge is correct.

Well, a Daedroth shot poison, shock, and then poison again at me, and they all hit me with 110% magicka resistance.. leaving me confused and severely burned. That doesn't seem like it's working as intended, unless it was intended to not work.

Hello there. I think you're mixing up Magicka Resistance and spell resistance. Here's a quote from UESP that describe it well: "These effects decrease the damage or other negative effects dealt by any magical effect other than the four elemental damage effects."

So yeah, it's working as intended.

I have 2 effects under the category of Magicka Resistance: 50% racial as a Breton and 60% from a piece of equipment I'm wearing. If effects of magicka are decreased by 110%, then they wouldn't affect me at all, but they are.

Trust me, I'm not mixing up anything.. something's wrong and it ain't me.

What I mean is, Magicka resistance doesn`t include everything that`s magic, only non-elemental magic (like damage health). So fireball or poison bloom will still hit you, even with 450% of magicka resist.

Right, magicka resistance isn't like in Oblivion. This may not apply to the OP but people coming to MW from OB may be confused about this.

I don't see how, it is a resistance to raw magical energy rather than to elemental energy. The only effect that comes to mind which is totally pointless is resist corprus, except in one single instance.

100% Resistance to Magicka also gives you total immunity to Common Disease, Blight Disease, and Attribute drain.

Lol good old Resist Corprus. The most utterly useless spell effect ever made in any game ever.

Ever

Well maybe apart from bothering to use "Absorb Personality" or something equally as pointless :D

Cure Paralyzation on Self is even worse. At least as a spell.

What would a decepticon know about restoration magic, Megatron?

Er, I don't know if you can even give a duration to cure spells, and even if you could, I think they'd still function as one-time purge spells.
