Magicka Regeneration

Post » Sun May 01, 2011 3:03 pm

Hey everyone, I just started playing morrowind about a month ago after playing oblivion forever (this is actually my first morrowind forum post I think) and I just have a question about magicka. I know that it regenerates when you sleep/rest, but is there any way to get it to restore at a regular pace through enchantments? Just wondering because my character is now like level 20 and uses destruction a lot to accompany his short blade and I find myself going through potions ridiculously fast.

Also one more unrelated thing... how do I get to ebonheart????? I'm trying to play Morrowind mostly without the wiki and none of the travel guides or silt striders seem to offer transportation there and thats where the guards are telling me to go after I was attacked.

Without mods such as Galsiah's Character Development, magicka regeneration through normal gameplay is impossible. Only via resting.

To get to Ebonheart, I suggest going to Vivec and following the signposts :) You can do it from Seyda Neen, Pelagaid and Balmora very easily.

Edit: Fixed the error Moody pointed out.

Waiting doesnt restore magicka. There are alot of restore magicka potions in the different Mages Guild equipment chests. You can also buy them off alchemists and make some yourself, either that or rest unless you have the Atronach birthsign. Then you can use the Imperial and Templae shrines "Restore Attributes" blessing to restore magicka or summon an Ancestral ghost.

Or you can just mod your game.

Thanks for the correction, Moody. I'm clearly not paying enough attention, it would seem >.<

Try adding either Fair Magicka Regen or Galsiah's Character Development, both of which add magicka regeneration. If you're playing on a console, you could play using an Atronach birthsign and either punch a Scrib or summon and pick a fight with an Ancestral Ghost to have it cast spells on you.

As for finding Ebonheart, try walking out of Seyda Neen past the Silt Strider, and keep going down the road along the coast. You can keep going past the western entrance to Vivec and run right into Ebonheart.....or you could find a boat that goes there.

Thanks for all the help, I'm not on xbox so I can't mod but I'll look into draining the mage's guild of all their potions, and I've successfully made it to ebonheart :) thanks again

You can also use alchemy. Abusing alchemy can get you unlimited Magicka and intelligence. You can literally get yourself over 20,000 magicka or regenerate over 300 magicka per second. Alchemy is ridiculously powerful in Morrowind when abused making Mages very deadly.

Personally, I like the trick of draining all of your intelligence for 1 second

A simple magicka regeneration mod is the easiest way to go. There are several out there, using various formulas to compute how it's renewed. Just do a search on PES or TES Nexus under the word "regeneration." I won't recommend one over another, though I've used several that all work well.

If you have the PC version, I would agree that the easiest way to regenerate magicka would be to find a mod that allows magicka regeneration, other than that, if you have the Atronach birthsign, you have a good chance to absorb spells cast by others (Both the effects of shrines or enemy spells.) which can be increased further if you use absorb magicka enchantments or spells, and I feel that in Morrowind, since magicka only regenerates when resting, the stunted magicka effect is much less of a hindrance than in Oblivion, and the Atronach is often my favorite choice of birthsign for characters who rely heavily on magicka, though the main reason is because it gives the highest magicka bonus of all magicka increasing signs. Of course, there's always restore magicka potions too, though you can use the premade ones, I personally prefer to make my own potions, as alchemy can be very powerful if you take the time to improve it, even if you don't abuse it, and alchemy ingredients are easier to get than potions, but how good the potions you can make from them are depends on your skill and your tools.

I don't like resting to restore magicka that much even though it's effective because with enough magicka, you can end up needing to rest for a really absurd amount of time to restore it all, eventually, I came to the conclusion that having my character pause his adventures to rest for days on end just to regenerate all his magicka was not good for role-playing.

I'd suggest one of http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=8052 http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=7885 (depends on how strong you want it) alongside with http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=1849.

I don't use magicka regen and never needed it... well my mage-chars had atronach anyways. but leveled magicka is really a good mod.

When I played on the xbox, I was playing with then Antronach sign, and I had no problem getting magika back. It was through potions, or

Spoiler
I would Mark where I was when I ran out, cast "Imsavli (sorry spelling been a while) Intervention which would teleport me close to a shrine or the Imperial version of it, and then go to the shrine and then activate the shrine and regenerate that way and then teleport back to where I was before. A few times it would fail, so I would have to try it abit over and over again, till I was full of magika again.

I was so use to doing this, that I would also be my loot drop off point as well.

Hoy-hoy

Just second opinion.
You can go to Ebonheart with Divine Intervention. I tested it from Vivec. Divine Intervention transports you instantly to the nearest Imperial Cult shrine. I'm not sure, is this what you want, but it is another way to travel.

What does this do?

The amount of magicka that your character has is directly dependent on his intelligence ("intelligence * 2" or something like that). And it's re-calculated immediately when the intelligence changes. So, drain your intelligence to 0 for a second, watch the magicka pool drop to 0.

However, when the drain intelligence effect then wears off, the game only remembers that your magicka was at 100% of what your intelligence provided. 0 of 0 = 100%. So, it then recalculates your amount of magicka accordingly: to 100% of your base intelligence. That's a full magicka bar.

TL;DR: Draining your Intelligence for a second will re-fill your Magicka pool completely once the drain effect wears off.

This only works if your character does not have any form of magic resistance though. If he does (by being a Breton, for instance), you'll need to add a Weakness to Magic effect.
