Magicka

I love it, but by now I feel like I resort to only a few spells: normal AoE-shield (so far nothing brings it down as fast as I can charge it), 5x Earths charged while the shield is being broken, haste + AoE Arcane spam (EVERYTHING DIES!!!!!) for the critters. And some healing of course!

So I have a few extra dollars and was considering getting this, is there a way to get the extra DLC offered on Steam before the end of January or was that chance lost forever?

The "DLC" is useless. The weapons are replaced almost immediately in the game. The hat is the only thing and it's not that cool because you can't change it's color.

I played this game with my friends from 11:00 PM to 5:00 AM yesterday/today. It was great fun, two friends of mine played with xbox controllers and had hard time casting anything quickly. :P
Too bad I installed that on another PC so I need to start all over again, we managed to get into 9th level.

There was huge load of pop culture references all over. Rambo, Highlander, Chuck Norris, Star Wars, 300 and list goes on. it was awesome :D

The developers put up all the saves for the various chapters. You won't have your items, but if you don't want to start over this would work.

Nice.

But since it looks like those saves wont have all spells you can found during campaing, I might just start from begining.

I would like to know this as well. I would also like to know if any of the game breaking bugs I've been hearing about have been fixed yet.

There have been several updates, but I haven't played in a while. I don't believe there are any game-breakers. There is an arena online where you fight off waves of enemies, so I guess there's pretty good replayability.

If I get it tonight, will anyone be able/willing to play?

Also, is there ingame voice communication?

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Well, I bought it and played the first two chapters last night single player and had a blast (no pun intended (Arcane Mines ftw)). I'll be home and able to play around 9:30pm EST if anyone wants to play. Just add me on Steam and we can do the voice chat over that.

I like it, I just don't like how some spots were designed for multiplayer, especially seeing's how I've got no friends who play this game.

HAhahahahahah! Oh my god. I'm waiting for my new computer before I really dig into magicka, it's just not running all that well even after all of the patches.

I'm loving the game and the developers sense of humor and I'll for sure be picking up that expansion/DLC.

I played the demo a while back and thought it was pretty fun, but I ended up rage-quitting a good way through because of the checkpoints. After I emerged from the starting dungeon, I kept pushing forward but each time I died I kept going back to before the fight with the monster at the end of the dungeon. The further I got, only to die and be sent back to that checkpoint, the more frustrated I got. Eventually I got to the first town, and died during the attack. Once I saw that I had just lost 5-10 minutes of progress and was sent back to the starting dungeon yet again I just quit.

The point of this post is that I wanted to ask, does the checkpoint system get any better? The game seems enjoyable, but if the checkpoint system is always as horrible as the above example I don't think I'll be buying it.

Hardly. The checkpoints are kind of annoying. But the game really shouldn't be played singleplayer, that's what it comes down to. Even with one other guy it means you can get revived when you die. And you (or me, anyway) tend to die a lot later on :P

Oh ok then, well then I guess I'll have to wait until I have a mic before considering buying it if it's better to play co-op.

I had to get another two gigs of ram to play this well, but it was worth the extra $31 I spent on the ram to play this game. Well worth it. Hell, when can you say you spent $41 on a game, 75% of which is helping all your other games? When you get magicka, that's when.

I went ahead and bought this game yesterday. I just finished chapter 5. It can be really hard at certain points, especially during the boss fights. One spell combination I've found that helps with slowing down the pace a little is "SERD". It creates a stone wall that enemies tend to waste time attacking, buying you time to position yourself or work up a more complex spell. What makes it even better is when they do break through it freezes them.
