Magnus - The God of Sorcery in Skyrim

Post » Sun Oct 02, 2011 9:29 am

Magnus, Magus
The god of sorcery, Magnus withdrew from the creation of the world at the last second, though it cost him dearly. What is left of him on the world is felt and controlled by mortals as magic. One story says that, while the idea was thought up by Lorkhan, it was Magnus who created the schematics and diagrams needed to construct the mortal plane. He is sometimes represented by an astrolabe, a telescope, or, more commonly, a staff. Cyrodiilic legends say he can inhabit the bodies of powerful magicians and lend them his power. Associated with Zurin Arctus, the Underking. It is said that as he fled Mundus in the last of its birth-pains, he tore a massive hole in the fabric of Oblivion, leading to Aetherius. This hole is Nirn's sun, known itself as Magnus. He was followed shortly thereafter by the Magna Ge who formed the stars.

Could http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JSRtYpNRoN0&feature=player_detailpage#t=22s guy in the trailer (middle one) be Magnus?

The question is: What cool-looking armor is that old man wearing?

That old man apparently is a God and apparently outmatches Alduin :P That's not really armor, it's a badass overpowered cloak by the looks of it :o

What do you mean?

i mean my speculation is that hes involved in some way with the major conflic of the magic guild, in skyrim. also the title of the thread kind of sounds like
the god of socery in skyrim, and not what it is, which is
the god of socery is in skyrim.

What do you mean?

To sum up that post: John Locke thinks that he's somehow part of the College of Winterhold (Mage's Guild) storyline.

I think Bethesda could do some really cool stuff just based off the brief biography of him.

Magnus left. He peaced out when Mundus was created to avoid getting trapped with the rest of the Aedra. I see no reason why he'd interfere now.

I would not say that he is in the Main Quest, but maybe in the Mage's Guild (College) or just a Unmarked Quest to find his long-lost artifact.

I think Martin will lend a hand too but indirectly. He will teach the Dovakhiin the Way of The Dovakhiin (Martin was a Dragonborn). On the other hand Magnus will help the Dovakhiin defeat Alduin. It takes a God to take down a God :D Guys, we got our TES Dumbledore coming! :P

The trailer clearly shows a powerful robed figure banishing Alduin. Who else would it be if not the God of Sorcery himself? If I'm not mistaken Alduin was already banished once by someone (I do not know it if was Magnus or not), maybe it's time he does it again?

I'm thinking it has something more to do with the mage's guild than with the main quest and it will involve an artifact of Mangus possibly a your end of guild questline reward. If Martin gets involve then he will do what he does best destroy the precious artifact to save the world.

Is it clearly shown? I don't see how Alduin could ever be "banished." Alduin is Akatosh. He's the most influential god in all of Mundus. He is literally time itself. The only thing close to a "banishment" would be a Dragon Break, and I don't believe Magnus ever had any part in any of those.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JSRtYpNRoN0&feature=player_detailpage#t=22s. He could be banished as in delayed notice the words in the trailer at the exact time that powerful robed figure is shown "Their defeat was merely a delay (the Jills along Alduin)". If it isn't the God of Sorcery then who is it? I think the middle guy is Magnus and the two beside him are Greybeards.

Hmm... Looking at the Wall again. Maybe Magnus (Or whatever is the mysterious old man) is summoning/helping Alduin rather than "banishing" him.

I think banishing is a poor choice of words.

I also see no possible motivation or reason as to why Magnus would do any of that. He left. Also, that part of the wall has always been said to be of how Alduin fell to the acts of mortals, not a god.

No he's certainly not helping Alduin. He's against him, clearly. See http://media1.gameinformer.com/images/site/pages/esv/index.html?es=5#. Looking at that high-resolution Alduin's wall image, I can confirm that those 2 individuals standing next to Magnus (possibly) are Greybeards. Take a close look at the one on the left of Magnus (again, possibly). He's clearly shouting Thu'ums (Dragon Language/Shouts) to Alduin.

I think banishing is a poor choice of words.

Depends on what you mean by "has always been said". Is it confirmed that Alduin fell to the acts of mortals? Maybe mortals referring to 'Dragonborn'?

Lorkhan/Shor?

Whoever it is, it is not Magnus. He went "Screw this I'm outta here" once the real deal with Lorkhan's plan was known to him. The stars? Those are the exit points of the Magna-Ge, those et'ada who followed Magnus in egress. The sun? That's the exit point of Mags himself.

If anything, he'd probably be going "Dammit dammit dammit, Auri-el didn't figure it out 'till it was too late. Well crap."
