No Main menu. Sits on Dragonborn Symbol

Post » Mon Jan 13, 2014 12:08 pm

Wow...been a while since I've been on these forums. Anywho..

I am having a major issue with my game and I can't seem to figure out what's going on. I have played Skyrim up until this point and never have encountered this issue. I recently built a new computer so was going to play another playthrough of skyrim.

My issue: When I launch skyrim...I have no menus. When I launch the game..the Dragonborn Symbol appears with the smoke around it, which then the main menu "Continue / New Game / Load / Etc." should appear.

Unfortunately there is no menu for me. The list is there...as I can use the arrow keys to go up and down and can hear the selections being made..however there is no menus. I can even manage to start a new game using the arrow keys and enter...upon entering the game..I am unable to access any menus of any kind.

My computer is plenty capable of running skyrim. I have ran it before on this computer.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled skyrim several times. I have ZERO mods running. I have deleted all mod files and all skyrim files. Yet this issue is persistent.

In addition..when I use the Steam option "Verify Integrity of Game Cache", I receive the same message every time. "1 file failed to be validated and will be reacquired". I can do this check 10 times in a row and the same message will appear.

Any ideas at all?

When you removed all the files, did you also remove the files in My Games\Skyrim?

Do other Flash applications work??

Yes. I deleted the entirety of the \SteamApps\common\Skyrim folder, as well as the \Documents\My Games\Skyrim folder.

I'm fairly sure other flash applications work. I haven't ran into any issues stating that flash wasn't working. On Adobe's website it states I have version 12,0,0,41 installed. Is there a way I can test this to be sure?

Run any flash-based game. There are a boatload out on the interwebs. :)

All the menues are flash-based in Skyrim. If flash works, but skyrim doesn't....... Not sure what to think there.

I ran a couple flash based games online and they all ran without issues.

Where is the game installed to? What operating system ya got?

I would be tempted to uninstall steam, and associated games, and reinstall someplace OTHER THAN program files. Create a folder "C:\Games", install steam and such there.

Do that, and don't bother about the "1 file failed to be validated and will be reacquired"

--------

i should assume you have tried do delete Interface.bsa and verified your game cache files after that. !!!!!

Uninstalled steam and installed to C:\Steam

Redownloaded Skyrim.

Same issue. :(

Edit: yes, I have deleted inferface.bsa and reacquired it. Does not help.

Ok, going back a bit..... can you start a new game, bring up a menu? if so, can you navigate the menu with the keyboard?

No. I can manage to start a new game from a non-visable main menu. Once I get in...no menu's appear. Hitting escape does nothing.

Have you done it like this ????

==-----------------------------------==proper un-installation

First do a standard uninstall.

Next, delete your skyrim folder under C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common

Then delete your Skyrim directory under (My )Documents/(My )Games.

Then under C:\Users\[Your name]\AppData\Local\Skyrim - Delete the Skyrim folder that is in it.

(under View - Options - Folder Options - View - Advanced Settings: Show hidden files, folders and drives)

----------------- Secondly installed on C:\

Uninstall skyrim and steam from C:\ as well.

Actually it shouldn't be a problem installing at the default directory, if you don't install any mod's.

----------------- Delete everything related to skyrim and steam on your computer

Do a Ccleaner registry clean...(http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner)

Do a HDD check. (C:\ -> right click -> Properties -> Tools -> Error checking

----------------- Install skyrim only if possible with the latest patch

@Mark41

Yes I have done the full uninstall. I have tried installing Skyrim on other HDD's in my computer as well without any luck.

@Chuckos

Yes, I have replaced the ini files at least a dozen times.
