I see this Act 1 and Act 2 stuff everywhere so I have to ask: is this from a guidebook or something or is this just something people unofficially accepted?

Three acts, actually. Act One is "Out of Time"--> "Reunions", Act Two is "Dangerous Minds" --> "The Molecular Level", Act Three is everything after.
