The end of the Dawn was the end of the previous kalpa, and what was the beginning of the Merithic Era was the start of the new one. Alduin seeks to eliminate this one, as he constantly hungers, and will never stop eating for his hunger is never ending (though he did get extremely full during this current kalpa).

I hope it portrays dragons as good (and we're the villain), but one can dream.
