Main worries about Brink 2

Post » Tue Dec 29, 2009 6:40 am

I agree with your point on tactics but that is real life and this is a game. I would love to play with such a coordinated group.

Still Camping is cheap, run and gunning is cheap. So I am supposed to leisurely walk around hoping to find someone to shoot?

There is nothing cheap about it.

My point is it is as cheep as camping is. Lequis is saying that all heavies are gonna be campers. By that logic all lights are gonna be run and gunners. Two ends of the spectrum.

So I can't sit and hide? Or run around like crazy? Or walk? Wraith uses Flight!! :spotted owl:

Camping, running and gunning, taking a stroll... It doesn't matter how you play, as long as you benefit the team.
You guys were only talking about shooting, but let's say a medic is camping in a corner, not to shoot , but to distribute health and buffs. Ofcourse it would be better if he'd just stay with his team, but atleast he's trying to help.
Now on the other hand, let's take a light operative, running and gunning behind enemy lines, distracting some of the other team's players and then using interrogate. Is he playing cheaply? No, he's helping the team by distracting and interrogating.

Anyways, my main worry is the balance of used classes. A common problem on Wolfenstein ET was the Rambo medic, a medic wandering off on its own. He had the most health and he could heal himself. In most cases (public matches) the team with the best rambo's and some objective playing engineers would win.
Now, I'm afraid that something similar will happen to this game.

If you watch the videos there are plenty of ramps/stairs to get to higher ground. Its not like the low path is straight and narrow either.

Still there are plenty of areas that only lights can go.

Borderlands.

By the second month of that game everyone had modded weapons that did ridiculous amounts of damage, every elemental damage and killed anything in one shot. All anyone did in MP was dike around trading guns and talking about how their guns is the best because it does 1000 x 1000 damage or some [censored] like that.

That is a very good point, they ruined the game.

Sure, and they can get over objects that would block others paths but I think what he is trying to say is that heavies wont be svck on the ground floor subject to ambushes from above every time.

I think the reason the guy loves the lights so much is because he will be able to fulfill his dreams of being a ninja and doing cool parkour moves. But I'm pretty sure medium can do them too.

Yes, to a certain extent. Lights can do the most, heavies the least, and mediums in the middle

You know...

there are reasons some people aren't game designers.

I'll leave it at that and let you be the judge of what I mean ;)

My fear is that over saturation of kill-emphasized shooters, like Halo, BC2 and MW2, will bring an influx of players to Brink who will do everything they can to conform Brink into the dumbed down, fragfest they are used to, rather than playing the game the way it was intended, ultimately ruining online play for the rest of us, leaving co-op and bot matches the only viable option to play a game with competent teammates.

I was worried about this too until I realized that the severely reduced EXP gained for kills as opposed to objectives will like convince most to change their ways quickly because if there's one thing that group of players (generally speaking of course) loves more than shooting people it's unlocking shiny new toys. It should be fine but we'll just have to wait and see.

Also... this game is all about moving, jumping and shooting all at once... You can even slide tackle while unloading SMG to their nuts!

Quickscoping ONLY works on sniper rifles that kill in one shot.... there is no such thing in Brink, and even SHOTGUNS take at least 2 shots at close range.... so this is a complete non-issue in Brink. In other games, as noted, it DOES take some measure of skill to do, though lets be honest, it's not that hard, it almost always makes the sniper rifle an OP weapon (not always...), AND the pond scum dot their screen to make it even easier.

Finally... this is STILL a SHOOTER. Thats what the S means in FPS. There is SUPPOSED to be a HEAVY influence of killing the enemy... its the whole damn point!

Ya yah, objectives herp durp... I know I know.... This game has objectives, Objective completion is the GOAL to win, you MUST play for objectives or you get anywhere. Doesn't change the fact your doing these objectives with a gun in your hand, and the idea is to SHOOT AND KILL any opposition that gets in your way of your goal. For this, you will need experienced shooters.

Now, obviously ppl running around on the edge of the map trying to get a high K/D and rarely fighting around the actual objective aren't going to help. BUT if you simply move that person closer to the objective at hand... all of a sudden he/she becomes a boon. Sure, they might not be running through fire to actually TRIGGER the objective, but cover fire is cover fire, and given that most of the action will be around the objectives, HOPEFULLY, players more interested in kills then anything else (say max rank chars) will also realise the best place to do so is near the objective :)

Ok I removed some post and should have removed more. Please note that this forum will not be used to bad mouth or diss people who play certain games, play a certain way, play on a certain console or certain platform or to label folks "crazy kids". Keep those kinds of finger pointing off this forum. Discuss game play. Discuss what is in the game. Discuss strategy, story line, or whatever else you like, but leave the name calling and finger pointing for somewhere else.

You`re right, Valve said they wanted the updates to be free, However Micro[censored] being Micro[censored] they wanted...MOAR MONEYS!

Yeah! Valve took a stand! If we have to charge money to give content to our fans, NONE OF THEM GET IT!

Valve then proceeded to save the princess and someone remain the only corporation in the world people don't realize is just out for money because of the fact the update a game they didn't even finish by any FPS standards for free.

I still love their games though.

BRINK may have too few maps to play on;
or they may go the lame variation of same maps route.
And DLC may cost. Aliens versus Predator's DLC costs when it really really shouldn't.

I figure http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AbIVUgW0t0o&feature= would be a reason not to get brink as well. That is, if the AI turn out this bad. However, I have no doubt Brink will be my fav game yet.

So hilarious. o _ m _ g .

My only worries are that I'm gonna have to upgrade my comp to fully enjoy the game (I think I could find money though), there's nothing but "silent games" with no coordination going on or "witty banter between a bunch of cultured gentlemen" (read drunk-tank conversation), and that the game will be too short and/or have a very TF2 selection of maps as far as general theme and aesthetic goes.

Well, at the very least, you wont have to worry about "variation" maps, each map has its own place in the plot, and its own story line. So, the maps wont be variations - they should be more unique than any FPS to date. As far as the numbers, each level is going to be a map, so there will at least be a dozen or so. If that is "too few", or how many you consider worth playing will all be up to opinion.

And with DLCs, I think that they may charge for extra weapons or customizibles, but charging for new maps or patches doesn't seem likely to me.

They said no going back, replaying anything, 10 hours of gameplay on both campaigns. That kinda worries me.
