MAJOR ALCHEMY BUG! HELP ME PLEASE

Post » Sat May 19, 2012 2:48 pm

Hey,

I recently reached level 100 alchemy, and got the 5/5 perk for alchemy. But, now that I go to create potions, the max % for the potion strength is 4%!
For example, when creating a potion of fortify restoration it says that the restoration spells are only 4% strong for 60 seconds. I did NOT have this problem before and I am even wearing alchemy enchanted gear. Someone please help me out! I would like to refrain from reverting to my last save game, as I have done a lot since this happened. Happy holidays to all and thanks in advanced.

Try taking off your enchanted gear. Sometimes if you boost a skill above 100% effectiveness it actually resets back to 1.

Try to reload if that does not work turn off the game and load your character. Then if the problem persist visit a shrine and see if that helps.

Thanks. I reloaded and turned off the game... all that stuff but I have not tried visiting a shrine. By the way, what do you mean by visiting a shrine? Could you give me an example... I know it is a noob question but Idk if I have visited any at all, haha.

Any shrine of the divines Dibella or Talos or Akatosh and so on. Not a problem friend, if its a disease or ailment of any kind a shrine should heal it.

Hey,

I just went to a shrine, cured all diseases and got a blessing, I went back to my house in Whiterun, used the alchemy lab, and still nothing. Any other suggestions?

It seems you have encountered a bug. Not sure if you have to go back to your old save game sadly.

Go into your menu, then magic then go to where you see your enchantments. See if you have any diseases or anything there that can say what is causing you to have 4%. I read somewhere that when you go over 100% depending how much over you go, it reverts back to zero or something like that, and that is why it shows up as 4%.

So when you make a potion, try going in butt naked except with your ingrediants and see what happens. Sorry it's all I can think of. I wish you the best.

If this doesn't work sadly you will either have to accept it and continue playing hoping Bethesda will fix it, or start a new game. Well your third option is to quit but hopefully that is not an option.

So can you again tell us how you exactly got your enchantments. By perks and exact potions or armour or jewlery you are using to get so high a %. Also make a potion. See if it's really 4% or it just says 4%. Heal your self and see if only 4% health comes back or more than 100+% comes back.

Hey,

Thanks for the advice. I really hope I would not have to resort to quitting... as a matter of fact, that isn't an option, haha. I also am never going to make a new account, as I am level 50 and have put in SEVERAL hours into the game (I am not quite sure how many but I know it is a lot). Anyways, here is what I have done so far.

1) Restarted game (saved, quit, loaded back up)
2) Unequipped everything, re-equipped everything
3) Leveled up
4) Gone to a shrine and cleared all diseases
5) EDIT: I JUST STRIPPED AND CHANGED DIFFICULTY... STILL NOTHING

Sadly, none of these things have worked.

Here is what I was doing when this happened. Some may call it a glitch, or others may call it an ingenious combination of potion usage, but I was trying to max out my armor with this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-0I9gVNiehU Now, watch it and you will know what I did. I encountered a problem though while doing it, after I made all my restoration potions, I had not unlocked any of the fortify smithing or fortify enchanting potions, so, when I made them, all my % increases when from over 9000 back to 25%. I acted like this didn't happen, and because I got to level 100 alchemy after making a really valuable potion, I decided to max out some of the perks. Anyways, I collected all my ingredients again, and when I went back to create potions, I encountered this problem. I hope I have been detailed enough, maybe if this thread gets big enough Bethesda will pay attention to the bug.

I have saw the video. It looks like you broke your game. At 2:05 of the video it says something like "if you see a negatitive %, you have gone to far and need to reload from a previous save". So maybe you didn't notice the -% and you basically hosed yourself right now sadly.

So either redo what you have done from a previous save, start a new game, or just continue playing now, saying you got wacked in the head one too many times and can't really make good potions again.

I know I hate when I do something that breaks the fun for me in a game. All you can do is lessoned learnt and hope not to make the same mistake again.

LOL, you broke your game by following a guide on "how to break the game" and want bethesda to fix it? There are way more important issues. Fixing avoidable glitches, should not be a priority. You have to do this intentionally and it will never cause any harm by mistake. You broke it, now deal with it.

Lmao! I had a feeling he broke it by boosting too far.

Sure hope you've got a backup save, if not. Lesson learned......I'd hope.

if i still can make a 100% casting reduction im satisfyed anything after that may disapear if it for me

Ok, I know what you all are thinking but this should not be considered "breaking the game" at all... it is using the potions and mechanics provided to create something better. I am wondering if you all could just try and help...

Well I think there is nothing that can be done. I forget how it works, but something about how the computer or software comptues things. Once you get past a certian number, the computer doesn't know how to handle it and treats it as going back to Zero. I think this is what happened in your case and nothing can be done to fix it sadly.

Come on guys, don't gang up on him. At least he is not complaining how easy the game is so cut him some slack. :)

Sadly you will have to start a new game and not do this again, or at least save save SAVE before you do it, :) or just live with the consenquences made and continue playing until you do start a new game. I feel for you, I do, been there, done that, regretted it. One good thing about it is, at least the game will not be too easy now with over powered potions now.

Good luck and I hope you can still have fun with your current character, or start a new game. Play it a bit differently. I just started a new game and man I love it. Since I played my old game with 1.3.5, I didn't feel much new, but starting a new game with 1.3.5, it felt like an entirely new and different game a bit. I am glad I started a new game. Maybe you should too. Keep your current game, but start a new one and see how it goes.

You just might find it more fun.

I understand but you were asking bethesda to help you fix bug, in a glitch.

It's good you have it sorted out though.

Just asking but when did he say anything about bethesda? he asked for people to help him not for bethesda to fix a bug. (from looking at this thread qu

He said in his 7th post, the one with the video link,

"I encountered this problem. I hope I have been detailed enough, maybe if this thread gets big enough Bethesda will pay attention to the bug."
