Major X-Box 360 Problems

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 9:26 am

I posted this in another thread, but it got no replies...

.....................................................

First off, I would like to apologize ahead of time, because my problem MAY just be the fact that I'm using an old clunker of a 360, and it probably needs the dashboard upgrade. (I'll check when I get home) But if not, let me describe my problem.

I have the GOTY edition. Yes it's used, can't find any new ones around here. Disk looks fine, and it 'seemed' to load fine. Unfortunatly, nothing seems to access. I mean, I've gone days in game time and the Shivering Isles message hasn't happened yet. Now, if I re-put disk two in, it still says I need to install the update patch, even though I already did. Every time i start up the game, it says 'loading extra content' as well, but nothing happens... Or at least, nothing seems to happen. Am I just missing something in setting up? The KotN and SI register as being on the drive, and use up memory, but I'm not sure. (haven't made it to Anvil yet, so I don't know about KotN working)

Also... My GOTY edition freezes quite often, and my Platinum edition doesn't read at all sometimes (which svcks, cause that one was brand new) so I figured I'd fix that problem by installing Oblivion directly to my drive! Unfortunatly, it's taking up space, and it's listed as being there, but I can't access it at all. It still makes me play off the actual game disk.

Anyway. My hopes are that it's simply just the dashboard update, or 'I the user' did something wrong. I don't want to have to fork out extra for a new drive, if that's the problem, when I'd rather save up for a new console that's not an old clunker... but I want to play now!

Please help if anyone can answer! Thanks in advance!

Update:

Dashboard issue is NOT the problem. Problems have gotten worse actually.

I tried playing, but the freezing issue became so severe that it's not fun at all... I'm talking having to save every 5 or 10 seconds, cause it freezes every 10 to 20 seconds, causing me to have to reboot the whole system. As well as an occasional 'can't read disc' message, and one case of total black screen.

I uninstalled everything, deleting all the goty stuff, bringing it back to the main game only, and the problem stopped for about five minutes, then got to it's current horrible, totally unplayable state.

NO OTHER games are having any issues with my system.

PLEASE! SOMEBODY HELP! I spent money buying the system, and a new tv mainly to play Oblivion, and I can't. Eventually I'll get a new system to work with, but I'd like to figure this out and be still able to play before then!

Have you cleared your harddrive cache lately?

I cleared EVERYTHING off the drive... The only things on the drive when I tried all this is what comes default with the system when you buy it.

I actually bought a second hand X-Box 360 just for doing this... So it's probably boiling down to the system itself just being totally shot. It's an old unit, probably an original '06, so that's most likely the problem. Now, I don't know... if that's the case... if the problem is with the hard drive, or the console itself. Replacing either individually will cost at least $100 around here. I'm trying to figure out if anyone has any wisdom on the matter, as I would like to fix it.

But alas, at this point I'm resigned to just playing other games for now, and it plays DVDs fine for now. So if I'm gonna have to fork out cash on the thing, I'm hoping it'll last till I can save up the $300 and just get a brand new one... and pray that one will handle all my stuff fine!

Just a little irked over the whole situation, cause for the moment I can't play Oblivion.
