MAJOR Fallout 3 GOTY issue!

So a few months back I purchased Fallout 3 Game of the year edition second hand at a video game store, the game itself played alright but when I tried to download the DLC, I got a notification that I needed an update. I clicked yes on the update but nothing happened, so I installed the DLC and went about my business. Within 3 days my hard drive was completely dead, it would hold data for maybe an hour before just completely crapping out on me. Now, I had a 3rd party 250gb hard drive for my Xbox 360 Slim which is usually a 4gb, and that Hard drive had given me issues in the past but now it has completely died. So I got rid of that copy and this week I bought a Brand New copy of Fallout 3 Game of the year edition, had to remove the plastic and security seals and everything, but when I tried to install the DLC I got the update notification again, clicked yes again, and again nothing happened. THIS TIME however, I did NOT install the DLC for fear of what happened last time. Now since the last time, I have gotten an official Microsoft 250gb hard drive for my 360 Slim, and I've called Bethesda's tech support once (I plan on calling them again) they were incredibly polite but didn't really solve my problem. They told me I should play the game by itself for a while and wait for the update to come up on it's own, I've spent the last 5 days doing that and even cleared my cache, but haven't gotten ANY updates for fallout 3 at all. Anyone else have this problem?

I'm considering rolling the dice and trying to install it all again.
