Major flaw that has me worried

Post » Tue Oct 11, 2011 4:20 pm

Ok in trailer and screenshots i notice one thing that stands out in my mind. this game looks pretty cool so I am not bashing it or anything, but watch the trailers and notice the dragon fire Many times fire is right next to snow or ice and sometimes a stream of flame will hit it directly. And it does not melt or even get into the first stages of melting. How can a dragon spray thousands of degrees of flames right on snow and it have no effect. Unless maybe dragon fire is not actual fire and is just an effect to scare people off (which makes sense since nowhere in TES lore does it mention dragons shooting fire)? So does this prove that dragon fire is not an actual attack and is just a scare tactict?

I wouldn't call that a major flaw. It's more of a minor oversight. The DEVs probably just didn't think about it.

well i beleive dragon fire is just a magical force, and it would take a lot of work to do what you want and since it comes out in a month they are not going to fix it.

Bethesda don't do deformable terrain. They prefer to make a beautiful seamless world instead.

When I hit the ground with my weapon, it doesn't dig a hole. Does that mean the weapon is not actually a weapon and is just a scare tactic?

The terrain is not interactive in Skyrim.

Magic fire.

Or it's too difficult/strenuous to create destructible environments like that.

It would be hard to pull off melting snow in a large-world environment game. Not saying it can't be done. But It's difficult.

That would fall under destructible environments/deformable terrain and as Pete Hines would say, We don't do destructible environments/deforming terrain in Skyrim. It is not an oversight. It is a decision pure and simple. They though of it. And decided not to do it. That is it.

Really?, you are really worried about this?

The dragon breaths are attacks, so why does the snow/ice not melt under the heat?, perhaps because it's a pain in the [censored] to program melting patches.

As for it being fixed, you got no chance this late in the game, it gets released in 4 weeks.

they confirmed fluid snow which means it can be moved and footprints so in their theory it should melt.

Not to mention the technical challenges of dealing with real-time melting (and possibly freezing). Remember this is running on current gen hardware.

If this is a major flaw, may the Nine Eight Help you when an NPC repeats a line of dialog.

It's not a major flaw nor is it even a minor oversight. It's a technical limitation, plain and simple.

They didn't conform "fluid" snow, just procedural.

Footprints and fluid snow are unrelated to melting due to spell effects.

Could they have added it? Yes. Did they add it? No.

Show the confirmation, because the last thing I read said there are no decals for footsteps, as for fluid snow, not likely, so far the only thing that's been confirmed is the terrain turns white during snow and flat surface with snow look like they lack a texture.
