This hit me yesterday, and I wanted to get a sense of what the community's response would be towards a move like this, but it is one that I am very open to, and one I would honestly not mind seeing implemented. My question is, how would you feel if the MP portion of the game became Free-To-Play?
Now before everyone freaks out about the fact that they dropped $60+ for the game a few months ago, as did I, I honestly feel as though I would get more enjoyment out of the game if there was a larger player base to compete against. I personally know that any hard feelings I had due to that fact would be outweighed by the vast number of new players that would likely join.
So what would this look like? I envision a model where the core MP experience was made free to the public, up to level 15-20. This would allow new users to get a taste for the game, and still keep playing, but would force them to pay for the rest of the experience if they wanted to continue leveling up. Crytek could also offer the SP expereince as a stand-alone if there was interest, and caps could be placed on modules/weapons as well. Perhaps future DLC could even be made free to those who originally bought the game, while still charging those who went the free-to-play route, just to ensure there was revenue in place for future expansions.
Anyway, this is just my 2-cents, but it is an idea that I am VERY open to given the game's current state. I'm curious what everyone else's thoughts are though. Would you be open to this sort of move? Do you hate it? Have a better idea on how it could be done? Discuss!
