Make Skyrim Harder

Post » Thu Apr 28, 2011 2:25 am

My main worry is that Skyrim will be too easy, just like Oblivion, and Fallout 3. Both were "extremely" easy and didn't challenge me at all on the default difficulty. I felt no challenge throughout both games, I don't even recall if I've ever died (maybe once throughout the whole thing, not sure.) I just roflstomped through every enemy in the game, I basically had unlimited health potions with all the money I had... I loved both games, they were works of art, especially Oblivion, but they were just too darn easy. I can't play the PC version to mod Skyrim just to add some depth of challenge like people had to do for Oblivion because my PC svcks. >_<

Anyone else agree Skyrim should be more difficult?

Side thought - I agree with the other thread on the forums that there should be "hidden" and extremely difficult bosses for you to fight towards the end of the game.

Edit: I choose not to turn the difficulty up because I feel like the game is best played at its "natural" state, or difficulty, or how it's meant to be played... I guess. :P ...Either way, why should I have to turn the difficulty up from default just to get even some sense of a challenge? Have you seen the "bad guys" or "bosses" in Oblivion or Fallout 3? They are a complete joke! Turning the difficulty up should give you more of a challenge, yes, but the default difficulty should still have a good sense of challenge and difficulty, which honestly, it doesn't have at all. I shouldn't be steamrolling through everything is my main point!

The key words in your post are "default difficulty". See that difficulty slider?

But yeah vanilla oblivion was too easy, so the level scaling was used to give some sense of "challenge"

as others have said just turn up the difficulty. One thing I loved in Fallout was how you could turn up the difficulty as more of a challenge, and you were rewarded with more experience for kills.

Now now children, posts like this lead to the rampant level scaling methodology ;)

Fallout 3 is a complete breeze, even on the very hard setting.

Fallout 2 on "wimpy'" setting is harder than Fallout 3 on "very hard"

You are playing on average difficulty. Your skills clearly aren't average. Push that slider up. That's why it's there.

Have a few drinks before you play, or do a 5000 problem math test, twice. Or do 300 situps and jumping jacks and pushups and sing the national anthem while wearing a full suit of armor while tapping your nose and rubbing your belly.

Now play the game.

Or do it all while playing the game.

Yeah, personally, default difficulty fit me perfectly, until the blasted trolls started appearing (game trolls not forum trolls).

Then hush. Being able to use that slider to beef things up is part of "how it's meant to be played." :meh:

In OB you take 6 times the damage on full difficulty and only do 1/6 of your normal damage. That is a challenge. Try it ;)

Yeah. The slider is your friend. I personally liked to keep it just a bit under average difficulty for warrior characters, at average for thieves, and about 3/4 of the way to the top for mages. Game too easy? Double the enemies' health.

I would, however, like if the slider made enemies fight smarter like in most current FPSs instead of just giving them health and damage multipliers.

Some games have an auto-slider difficulty that increases based on your battle proficiency statistics, so you won't be popping out and hitting those moles on the head after a while. I really hated how it was implemented in other games because it would keep overpowering the enemy, then I'd get slaughtered, and then it would set the difficulty all the way at the bottom, and repeat.

Demon's Souls is easy as a pie.. cake.. ..thing. OB hardest diff was ridiculous if you didn't use epic spell weakness combos, reflect/resist stuff and such. I like OB at level 1, difficulty at 75% and using Umbra, enemies die quick and I die quick.

Edit: And yes it's possible to get Umbra at level one using a very cheaty cheat way of epic cheaters, even on consoles.

Avoiding bringing up the difficulty slider as has been brought up numerous times over (And they are right, that IS PART OF THE DEFAULT GAME. Its the modern version of how Daggerfall asks how fast your reflexes are. Thus the difficulty slider means "What are you comfortable with?"), I would instead like to point to what the devs have said about radiant AI thus far, and that how if the game thinks you are doing too well, it will throw a curve ball at you and challenge you a bit more. This has been mentioned in a few interviews now.
