Make Wood Elves more serious

Post » Wed Aug 18, 2010 8:34 pm

I could be totally wrong but it seems like the morrowind 'pudginess' is because the torso used is that of an imperial/breton/nord on a figure of smaller stature. Or was there differentiation in terms of male torso size in morrowind? I really can't remember.

I mean it will be a new aspect for the entire series to start making skinny/average/big boned options for characters and NPCs.

But yea it really bothered me how similar the elves looked to the humans in oblivion, but that's an argument that's already been raised. I'm sure the characters will look great in skyrim.

I agree-- I think the bosmer need some more awesomeness. As in, I think they should definitely be closer to their lore. I saw up above black eyes and sharp teeth-- I think black eyes should be common, but not always, and I think sharp teeth would be great. And better dialogue.

I hope that Bethesda can make them more deadly and also cannibalistic. Like the perk in Fallout 3. And maybe a damageboost with daggers, knives and throwing weapons? Don't know if it fits lore-wise, but it would make them perfect assassins.

I would like too see them be more savage, hedonistic and wild. With the Bosmer retaining their energetic qualities from past games but being less geared towards comedy. Physiologicaly I would like their appearence to portray how they are described in the lore as carniverous tree dwellers. Instead of only being shorter than the other races they could have a lighter more petite frame that would be typical of a tree dwelling people. I would also like them to look like the carnivores they are made out to be, give them big noses, ears and eyes so that they may better hunt their prey. And give them sharp teeth to eat it with.

Am I the only one who gets reminded of Halflings when I see a male Bosmer? Their height, voice and even the general behavior tends to match.
I have no problem with that though, even Halflings can be cool.

And seeing the difference in genders, shouldn't they have a matriarchal society?

Bosmer are comic relief at this point-- like Volus in Mass Effect. We just have to deal. :turtle: :turtle:

but... elves have always been a "ahead of the time period even though nobody thinks that they are" type of race.... why would they be changed in this game?

I'd like them to seem lean, slender, and a little more wild. I cant find any good pictures for what i have in mind, but a lightened princess mononoke demeanor? Hard to describe what goes on in a human mind XD

I thought a pretty good model of what elves should look like were the pictures from when you choose your class in Oblivion... Lean, slender, fierce. You know.

O.K. opinion time:

I believe that the Bosmer should exhibit more of a wild dignity and mischievous cunning rather than wildly barbaric, the whole cannibalistic thing is more of a ritualistic thing. They should show the wild vitality and youthful energy of the wood elf, along with the close connection to nature. More of a forest dweller than a forest haunt.

Really, the Bosmer in both games were pretty impossible to take seriously, and I'm not sure there's much that can be done about it at this point. It's going to be pretty hard for anything Bethesda does to erase the image of an ugly little guy with pointy ears saying to me in a high-pitched voice "I have a feeling that you and I are about to become... very close." The mental image of them as a comic relief race that seems to always have the most hated characters in the game is just too strong for me to be able to easily abandon it.

Aw. man...the epic Fargoth-hatred knows no bounds. The world would be a much better place with a million more Fargoths in it.

Except when they're acting all creepy and sh**.

It's facegen's fault the characters looked like they did in Oblivion. Now Bethesda has gotten rid of facegen. They should look closer to what they did in Morrowind.

They don't look much better in MW, IMO.

In fact, the women aren't bad, as stated above, but the males have super wide jaw bones or something and look dumb.

Simple thing really. They could be more "uncivilized" and viscous than the nords with their connection to nature, but Bethesda always seem to either make they ugly looking, annnoying or just there for the comedy factor.Infact,I wouldn't have noticed them in Oblivion if not for the Annoying Fan and Glarthir etc.

+10000 support, I hate the wood elfs they have had ingame (both Morrowind and Oblivion, though in Morrowind they weren't unbearable) and love the ones that exist within the respective game's own ingame lore. (seriously beth? Conflicting mannerisms, appearances, cultures, everything, all within the same game?)

i actually made some very decent looking bosmer in oblivion... took me a while though to get the cheeks and jaw strait on them though where they looked good. but yeah i would rather them look like they do in theyre concept art.....

but now that i think about it... from what i could see of the male bosmer in the skyrim trailer pick they seem to have stronger features now.
if you dont know where he is in the trailer look in the scene with the hooded man walking down the street. ahead of him is a bosmer that turns his head and looks at a guard.

Please, make the males more like the OB concept art, taller, and a better voice. The elf voice from OB is awful. I guess it's better than the squeaky MW voice, but still not good enough. If they make those changes, I would definitely play a Bosmer male. I love archery and the changes they've made to it sound great.

They can be small but they don't have to be stout looking. I think they should be lithe, one of the defining characteristics of elves.

I hope they act more insidiously, sometimes lightly and sometimes barbarically. And a little bit taller, not as tall as other races, but still a little taller (like 5'5 if the other races are 5'10).

All black eye color, small sharp teeth. Predator appearance and attitude. Make them mean little meat eaters.
And don't forget horns. Some of them should sport some small horns from their forehead. Changing the voice from being high pitched and nerdy to something more animalistic should help too.

As of now, the bosmer males are a complete joke, while the females are too pretty.

I have to admit, bosmer really don't look that great. My level 13 bosmer in morrowind has 90 agility, but his body type definitely doesn't support that.

Agree here, They probably looked fat because they was shorter but just as wide, this will be different as you can set body type.

Really? Like you can choose your physique?

My first oblivion character was wood elf. I started again when my friend came over and watched me bow some ogre down. He said "Is that your character? haha that is pathetic! Why would you only bow and your health is so low! Dude, thats shame."

The reason bosmer males looked fat is because they made em .9 height 1.0 weight while the females were .95 height and .9 weight.

Absolutely; the Bosmer are a race to be feared. Anyone who immediately associates them with the stereotypic image of being Tamriel's silly clowns should read http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:A_Dance_in_Fire. Chilling stuff; dangerous are those Bosmer, not to be trifled with.

Who was the hardest Bosmer in Oblivion? Maglir, for god's sake. Way to make a race a laughing stock. Almost ay change would be an improvement. They are supposed to be dangerous cannibals, not Hobbits with ADHD.

Do not get me started on Maglir. No really; I hate him, loathe him, despise him with all the passion of my bitter heart. It's suprising how I felt much more hostility towards that treachorous, ungrateful little pipsqueak than I ever did to Mankar Camoran, Mannimarco, or Mehrunes Dagon. Pantomime villains all of them; evil necromantic sorceror, dangerous lunatic baddie, evil God of destruciton... yawn. I think Maglir was much more accomplished as a character; his motivations and behaviour were believable if unexpected, and his actions combined with his speech instantly instilled in me a severe dislike and hostility to the character which still perseveres today.

Honestly, one of the most gratifying experiences in the entire game was when I was finally able to butcher that little fetcher in cold blood after the extent of his ignoble treachory. Not a single character of mine, not one, has ever neglected to report on his failures to Owyn.

I HATE HIM.
