Make Wood Elves more serious

Post » Wed Aug 18, 2010 10:49 pm

Simple thing really. They could be more "uncivilized" and viscous than the nords with their connection to nature, but Bethesda always seem to either make they ugly looking, annnoying or just there for the comedy factor.Infact,I wouldn't have noticed them in Oblivion if not for the Annoying Fan and Glarthir.I would love for them to play a bigger role in Skyrim.Maybe there could be a group of them in Skyrim who cause trouble for hunters, and command the mammoths?Or,just something that is similar to the Skaal tribe in Bloodmoon without being nords.Anything really.Just use them more and don't make them seem so annoying/comedic Bethesda please.

So, here's a look at the wood elves of the past couple games. Their change from Morrowind to Oblivion was generally an improvement.

All I'm going to say is, is that not all Bosmer can be like they were. I mean, I played one first and I didn't see him as such (though I used my imagination of course).

Ah, the black sheep of his race. Anyhow, they should have some deviated personalities for each race, because not everyone is the same. Heck, look at that lunatic that was in Morrowind that chased you around in Ebony armor if you stopped shelling out money (which I have no clue if he ever stopped asking for money).

Bah, I don't know. I had much better ideas on Facebook forums.

Can we please not make the guys always look fat this time round? I thought the Wood elf women looked great in Oblivion, but there were so few of them. I couldn't take the wood elf males seriously for the reasons mentioned, but also because they were so podgy looking.

Make them think like the Woof Elf females.

Agree here, They probably looked fat because they was shorter but just as wide, this will be different as you can set body type.

I hated the way they looked in Oblivion.
But I agree, the cannibal race of Tamriel needs to something you shouldn't underestimate.

Who was the hardest Bosmer in Oblivion? Maglir, for god's sake. Way to make a race a laughing stock. Almost ay change would be an improvement. They are supposed to be dangerous cannibals, not Hobbits with ADHD.

It's facegen's fault the characters looked like they did in Oblivion. Now Bethesda has gotten rid of facegen. They should look closer to what they did in Morrowind.

^lol!!! but seriously yeah they need to make the bosmer more serious. I lik the idea of havin a group of them out in the wilds controllin mamoths. anythin that will make them less annoyin is an improvement. i didnt think they were so bad in morrowind they jus could hav used a more cruder look.

I completely agree with you guys.

If you read their race description from the earliest games (up to Morrowind with the richest one) they are supposed to not only be more uncivilized cousins of other elven races, but also thy suppose to live life life to the fullest, take from life in handfuls: Daring, loving, cunning, with unsatisfied curiosity, and unbreakable spirits: Gifted with passions deeper then any other race, wild, and yet charming in the raw and natural simplicity of their poetry, music and art. More! Their supposed to be (which is beside the point a fantasy canon for wooden elves) the unmatched archers Live in high contrast, not be a bunch of broken, damn comedians!

How? Their black, buglike eyes made them look at least somewhat original whereas they are now basically humans with long ears.

Look at the pictures of the wood elves. Only one I posted had those eyes, they were uncommon. Go find some more if you like, but you can't call it a defining feature of the race.

thats kind of the point wood elfs look too generic and not that special (and theyre really annoying which is not how they are suppose to be).... atleast in morrowind the looked a bit more unique.

I agree that Bosmer need an overhaul. On my first adventure in the TES series I picked a Bosmer in MW because I wanted to be a sneaky archer and thought that controlling animals would be cool. Of course I soon realized that my vertically challenged little troll of a character was ultimately nerfed in almost every way.

The concept of the Bosmer in the lore is pretty sweet, sadly the in-game implementation has left much to be desired. Since it has been confirmed that they are working to differentiate each race this time around, I hope the Bosmer have had special attention. After that 1st MW playthrough I've never even considered picking a Bosmer again because they are just too much of a clown race.

Please, Beth, make Bosmer wicked, dangerous, and a feasible race to play!

I can agree that Bosmer should, for the most part, be pretty cool. There should also be a few of them that are just joke characters. It's tradition at this point.

I think all we really need is a Wild Hunt. That'll make the players take Bosmer more seriously.

They should look closer to what they did in Morrowind.

If you actually looked at Morrowind's Bosmer, you'd realize that's not a good thing. I don't care if you've killed hundreds of people and eat puppies for breakfast, if you look like that Bosmer face in Morrowind with the ridiculous beard, there's no way I can possibly take you seriously.

thats kind of the point wood elfs look too generic and not that special (and theyre really annoying which is not how they are suppose to be).... atleast in morrowind the looked a bit more unique.

If it comes down to looking generic and at least somewhat presentable (Sure, Oblivion's Bosmer weren't pretty, but at least they're not any less freakish than the other races in the game.) and looking "original" (As if something called an elf can be original to begin with.) but utterly hideous, I'd much rather go with the generic one. Really, we're not talking about orcs here, Bosmer are not supposed to be hideous abominations like they were in Morrowind.

And if they're not supposed to be annoying, than Bethesda should stop giving them voice actors with such squeaky voices. I mean, I don't expect them to sound like Morrowind's Dunmer, but it's pretty hard to make me NOT find someone who sounds like Morrowind's Bosmer annoying.

Look at the pictures of the wood elves. Only one I posted had those eyes, they were uncommon. Go find some more if you like, but you can't call it a defining feature of the race.

Not to mention the eyes made those who had them look like soulless abominations, not something we're supposed to be able to relate to.

Really, the Bosmer in both games were pretty impossible to take seriously, and I'm not sure there's much that can be done about it at this point. It's going to be pretty hard for anything Bethesda does to erase the image of an ugly little guy with pointy ears saying to me in a high-pitched voice "I have a feeling that you and I are about to become... very close." The mental image of them as a comic relief race that seems to always have the most hated characters in the game is just too strong for me to be able to easily abandon it.

well now ur jus talkin about morrowind graphics... and im pretty sure we can all say morrowind is a pretty ugly game by todays standards. ofcourse oblivions wood elfs looked 'better' and thats simply cause of the engine/character designs. and i wasnt talkin about them being abominations, i was sayin they need to look a bit more dirtier since accordin to the lore they are suppose to be more uncivilized.
