Make Your Anti-You

Post » Sat Jan 22, 2011 1:12 am

To break up some of the monotony of repeated topics of gameplay concerns, console handle sharing, and the ever-present "So, what class/bodytype will you be?", I'm flipping this showboat around.

Make a character as much of an opposite of who you are going to have as your main character. You jumpy little Light types, you get to be lumbering Heavy tanks. Stealthy Operatives, you are now noisy, trigger-happy Soldiers. And so on. Think about your anticipated playstyle. Then turn it around; figure out how you could play exactly not like that. However, you still want this to be a successful character. Select some key Abilities and weapons accordingly to focus your character's role. Or, be creative and unusual (maybe stick your Heavy with an SMG and a Pistol? ). See what you come up with. Perhaps he'll turn out to be a character you'll play down the line, since you do have 10 character slots available. (Note that since you can change factions with the same character, that will not be discussed here.)

Main: Medium Engineer/Operative who focuses on buffing weapons, fast-paced close-quarters combat with his shotgun and silenced SMG, and securing Command Posts and secondary objectives for my team.

Opposite: probably a Heavy Soldier with a grenade launcher and an assault rifle. He'd be a primary objective hog, always guarding what needs to be guarded, or blowing up what needs to be blown up. He wouldn't care about what the other players are doing so long as he is able to always stay on track with the primary objective.

Your turn.

Main: Light operative, silenced semi auto long rifle and machine pistol. Provides ranged support when not flanking, opening side routes, stealing enemy CP's, and disrupting the enemy teams movements,

Opposite: Heavy medic. Minigun and assault rifle. Stays with main team providing buffs and revives, always in the heat of action.

Main: Fully outfitted Light operative focusing on sneaking around enemy lines (don't they all) and using SMG's along with the trustworthy knife. Usually works the on primary objectives, though will assist team when need arises. I'll also have a Heavy Soldier who bears a resemblance to Duke Nukem, using the minigun and focusing on frontline combat.

Opposite: The Wraith Copycats. :ninja:

I do not mean any disrespect but I don't think you meant to write Heavy medium.

Likely a successful character, IMHO. :goodjob:

Please clarify? To me, it sounds like your main and Wraith's main/your opposite are similar, not opposite. Seeing as they're all Light Operatives. The point of the exercise is to defy the common character concepts. Actually, your Duke Nukem knockoff is more your opposite than a Wraith copycat.

Main: Light Engineer, Extended/Drum Mag attachment with Galactic SMG. Front-line fire support, provide dual suppressing fire with SMG and Turret fire in addition to team wide damage buffs.

Opposite: Heavy Operative, EZ-Nade and Rhett AR. Tanky, decoy disruptive operations specialist. Lacks mobility but makes up for it with versatility. Basically an HP ball that has enough bite to distract enemies off the main objective.

My contribution!

Main: Light Medic: I may not be the strongest or the toughest but I can get to my allies quickly, buff them, and then move on to the next guy who needs a syringe full of medicine.

Opposite: Heavy Soldier: My name is Bob. I have a mini-gun and a box of things that explode. I give bullets out one of two ways; 1. I give you bullets to shoot at the enemy or 2. I shoot bullets at the enemy. I love my job.

Opposite: Medium Medic; Give out team saves instead of Enemy death lol

They will be the ones who give me the most trouble. But I guess if you want a real opposite, it would be a Heavy Soldier specializing in heavy weapons (which most of them will). Grenade launchers, Heavy machine guns, etc. There a pain to take down, especially with a light operative.

Who wouldn't?

Indeed.

Main: Heavy Medic, focus on buffs and revives, stick with the team, minigun and assault rifle for supressive fire, try to keep as many team mates up as possible

Opposite: Light Operative, focus on stealth and quick kills, lone wolf, aim for objectives, probably a machine pistol and possible a rifle, get behind enemy lines for objectives and flanking

Old spice guy you are not.

Gamers look at your game now look at Brink now back to your game. Unfortunately it isn't Brink, but can be Brink if you preorder now.

Of course light operatives are the lone wolf, unless he has a pack.

I found it mildly entertaining. If you call entertaining one guy a win, then mark this down as an accomplishment.

But Solar's post was funnier.

I plan to play in as many ways as I can think of, but I guess the closest thing to an "opposite me" would be...

Heavy Operative with a Grenade Launcher and an SMG

Personally I can see some pretty interesting ways to play the operative as a direct assist to a group of teammates. One example would be grabbing a disguise and heading toward the points you are defending and then hover the area to take down any long ranged attackers or to flank a large group while your main defenders hold the objective

Well i chuckled..

Main: Light engineer - smg and revolver, focuses largely on support; buffing teammates, planting turrets and trying to cover as much of the battlefield as possible

Opposite: Heavy Operative: Auto shotgun (perhaps grenade launcher) and assault rifle, stays on the frontlines; focuses on providing counter-intel and spotting mines
