Making a backstory for my Assassin.

Post » Sat Mar 29, 2014 11:56 am

So I've got my brand new PC and the first thing I'm going to do is download Skyrim. Actually it's downloading as I type this. Anyway, I've been thinking of ideas for my characters backstory. I've definitely decided he will be an assassin (bows and daggers). I played a Kajiit last time for my Assassin, I was thinking a Nord this time but I'd like to hear your opinions. Race bonuses don't really matter to me. I hate elves tho. Oh and for the backstory I was thinking he assassinated a wealthy Lord and was trying to escape over the border when he was caught. Please no "he banged the emperor's wife" backstorys :)

I quite enjoyed my Imperial assassin, she found the Voice of the Emperor quite useful on the one occasion she got caught - sauntering out of that situation was quite satisfying (sadly won't be able to rely on that next time, if I keep the SkyRe race module active...)

Hmm why Imperial? Did you choose it for the Voice or simply for their looks?

From what I remember, she was from a rather privileged background with an expensive education but was essentially expected to take over the reins of the family estate or whatever, but she had somehow developed a fascination with the idea of blending into the shadows and bringing death on the unsuspecting. There was a bit more to it than that, but Imperial seemed to fit decently with the background.

Backstory is one of the easiest things that you can use while Roleplaying Skyrim. The only thing you're forced to do, is get caught at the border, unless you're doing an alternate start RP, example you just start at Solitude and ignore what happened at Helgan. I do that sometimes although it's tricky because you really need to think things out in advance or else the RP may end quicker then it should.

My Assassins I usually Roleplay them either getting caught at the border because they heard that Skyrim could be a place of fortune or my Assassin was betrayed by a lover and was sent up to Helgan to be executed.

Thanks for the feedback. Ill have to put a little more thought into my race/backstory (why would a Nord try to cross the border INTO Skyrim when they're natives). Maybe my Nord was born outside of Skyrim?

I know you said you hate Elves but why don't you try an Altmer assassin who assassinated 1 of the Thalmor leaders or something and fled to Skyrim with a few things to do.
Assassinate people
Kill Thalmor
Practice assasinating when you see soldiers and random travelers.

Something like
An Altmer legionaire is sent to Alinor by the emperor to kill Thalmor leaders while pretending to be Thalmor. He/she kills 1 and is seen by someone who then shouts for help. The Altmer hides in the shadows and escapes the area. He/she leaves Alinor and reports back to Cyrodiil to tell the emperor he/she killed 1 but failed to kill the others. The Thalmor contact the emperor knowing that an Altmer legionaire assassin was behind the death of a Thalmor leader. they force the emperor to tell them who was sent to Alinor. The emperor sends some imperials to arrest the Altmer but the Altmer kills the imperials and runs to Skyrim. blah blah blah caught at the border blah blah blah..... continue.

so he/she is now an enemy of the Thalmor and the empire. He/she plans to kill those who betray him and people who he/she thinks are evil. he/she starts by killing Grelod and eventually gets in touch with the DB. they recruit him/her and later he/she gets a contract that he/she is happy to do.

Now I want to do that.

Got it. My Nord (still coming up with a name) was part of a bandit group that controlled a trade route coming in to Skyrim. We got into a dispute over whether or not to kill an Argonian family traveling from the Black Marsh. As the group was arguing, we were ambushed by a nearby Imperial force. All of the bandits attempted to escape except for Lokir and I (we can ignore the fact that he was taken for stealing a single horse). All I need is a good name, not too corny but I do like the hyphenated surnames like Black-Blade. If anyone cares ill post the name when I get it. Thanks for the help!
