Making ESM Files

Post » Tue Aug 17, 2010 6:02 am

I tried search on these forums and I couldn't find anything on the subject. I was wondering if it's possible to make an ESP file into an ESM. If so, how is it done. I'm no expert, but I do have workable knowledge of the TES4 CS.

This tutorial, while meant to teach how to create a patch, does tell how to ESMify an ESP. :D It was originally written by "Display name is already in use" and he kindly gave permission for it's posting here. :foodndrink:

So Wrye Bash is the only way to do it? I'm simply trying to edit an existing ESM mod file. I tried simply making an ESP patch that's dependent on the ESM, but it appears the ESM is overriding my changes even though I put the ESP patch file last in the load order.

Other tools can do this. TESsnip and TES4Edit are two I've used for the purpose.

Edit: But actually, what you're already doing should work. ESP always overrides ESM. There must be something else involved.

I definitely recommend TES4Edit. Its side-by-side view of multiple mods is invaluable for this sort of troubleshooting.
