Re-Making Fallout 1 & 2

Post » Mon Jun 13, 2011 2:31 pm

Does any MMO really have a real goal?

I guess that's my personal peeve for every multiplayergame (except for Battlefield 2 for some reason), I just don't find a game without a goal fun to play no matter how good the mechanics are. There was some form of a goal at the beginning (establishing the base and making sure everyone survives), but after that was done and generally in the long run, it was just the grind for the sake of grind, and looting horrendous amounts of stuff and saving them for no real reason.

And here's the reason I like Brainbread, Zombie Panic, Brink and Left 4 Dead.
All but Zombie Panic has an actual story with objectives to complete for a reason.
Zombie Panic also has an objective but it changes depending on what map you're on, where you've holed up and how good the human team are at holding a defensive position.

I played Fallout until the recovery of the water chip. I felt I couldn't be a Fallout fan without trying.
I disliked the clumsy mouse interface (I expect some of you are blazing fast on it, but I couldn't get anywhere), the glacial pace, the small character models, the difficulty of seeing the environment and the general challenge to my eyesight.
I love and admire the story, the setting, the characters, the humor, the general design, the multiple solutions and the atmosphere.

If the games could be recast in a play style similar to F3 and F:NV but retain the parts I loved, I would be a very happy gamer.

I am well aware of the many objections to this and I respect them. But, out of pure selfishness, I'd love to see it happen. I want to experience the stories.

That's what I just said, if it's just a graphically updated Fallout/Fallout 2 game, I'm all for it. But if it's an overhaul to 'make it better' I'd say let it be. I enjoy it already, I don't need it dumbed down because some 13-14 year old who shouldn't even be playing the game is griping they 'didn't know what to do' :shakehead:

Every generic NPC in Fallout/Fallout 2 with a voice:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hvSVXUHee78.

That was hilarious!

Hm Remaking Fallout 1 and 2.

NOOOOO.

They were made for a reason and aren't going to be reworked just because somebody didnt play the Originals.

What games have you EVER heard of being remaked from the earlier years? none.

Its like people saying that they want Red Dead Revolver to be remade again pretty much for the graphics...(pointless).

I always find it such an interesting experience when people actual call me Alan Sutler :P - I can't remember if I ever used my real name but that was the point.

Fallout and Fallout 2 should be left alone. They are fine the way they are. Plus they got away with things Bethesda will not do or can't do, such as the harming of children. If you want to play them just svck it up and deal with the "out dated graphics" and turned based. In the end once you can get past that you will see they are awesome.

Also the games cover large parts of states, unlike Fallout 3 and New Vegas which only cover a city and the small area around them. It would be stupid to have the locations of Fallout and Fallout 2 crammed into such a small space.

Nah, I got tired of some random dike typing in Russian and preceding to cut me down with some powerful weapon. I MIGHT reinstall it if I hear it gets wiped. But who knows.

That is pretty much why I stopped. I got tired of being gunned down by pykers. Very annoying. One guy had the best armour and weapons and ten mercs with the best weapons and guards and he just spent all his time at the mine close to Gecko. That ass killed me so many times. It is set up by Pykers for Pykers. There are some nice people. A guy gave me a car which I then gave to the group.

Second reason was they were gonig to wipe it clean. So we would all have to start over. Still I have a feeling not everyone would have had to start over.. Pykers <_<

I don't know if I would be totally against starting again. There was still so much they were working on, like becoming a explosive person. Maybe someday I will get back into it.

It is Pykers is it not?

Huh? What does that mean? They were made for a reason, sure -- the company that paid for the development hoped they would make a profit. Anyone who remakes them will also hope to make a profit -- it certainly won't be because some hypothetical entity didn't play the originals.

What games have you EVER heard of being remaked from the earlier years? none.

They've remade a couple dozen Final Fantasy games, several Zelda titles and, I think, every Mario game.
They remade Goldeneye. That's a good example, in fact. I loved the original Goldeneye; spent hours upon hours playing it every way I could. I purchased the remake as a Christmas present for my friend's kids and I was totally underwhelmed. But the kids loved it, and right now E-Bay is sending a N64 cartridge of the original to me that we are going to spend hours playing on my old N64. The kids would never have played the original classic if it wasn't for the remake.
If I was impartial at all, I'd probably admit the remake was pretty good. But I'm not, and it wasn't made for me anyway. Can't make my point more obvious than that.

Its like people saying that they want Red Dead Revolver to be remade again pretty much for the graphics...(pointless).

Nonsense. It's like people saying they want GTA 1 & 2 remade again because of graphics.

They are remaking Halo: Combat Evolved now I hear as well.

I love the Fallout series and what Bethseda has done to them, the graphics, the quests, even gambling. What i would like for them to do is re-make the first two like they made Fallout 3 and New Vegas, but enhance it to make it better. What do you guys think?

"re-make the first two like they made Fallout 3". That's kind of saying that you think the first two should have been made more like Fallout 3 (and NV) were made, I agree.

As you say "re-make the first two like they made Fallout 3 and New Vegas, but enhance it to make it better". In effect, that is what the present Fallout 3 (and NV) did, having all the flavour, type of content and type of game-play that the first two had, but now greatly enhanced in content, flavour and game-play.

There is nothing missing overall of content, flavour and game-play from the first two Fallouts in Fallout 3 (and NV) , so doing remakes of the first two "like they made Fallout 3 and New Vegas", would gain little or nothing ... and kind of no point doing what has effectively already been done. If you want an even greater enhancement than that, I think it will have to be wait for Fallout 4.

PKers (Player Killers). But I guess you can pronounce it 'Pykers' if you want to, sounds cooler than pronouncing it 'Peekayers"

Thanks Colonel Martyr & SavageBeatings, I'll try to remember that. PKers are damn annoying and FOonline is a great example of why Fallout should not go MMO unless those making it try to do something about people that do nothing but ruin it for everyone else. Seems like those behind FOonline don't really care about stopping it.

I was introduced Fallout when I was stationed at NAS Sigonella in 99 and have been a follower ever since. When Fallout 3 was introduced i was just glad someone was keeping the game alive and being a fan of Morrowind and Oblivion I was glad to see that Bethesda took the torch and continued this great series. I know that in the eyes of some of our Fallout brothers and sisters a remake of Fallout 1 & 2 would only be seen as blasphemy, and such a thing should not even be discussed for fear of being burned at the stake :P . I however, being less of a fanatical fan wouldn't mind playing them again in a rich 3D world as long as they (Bethesda) kept the stories & lore exactly the same as they are in 1 & 2. Seeing how computer software has changed since then, and how I cannot even play Fallout 1 and 2 on my current computer without heavily patching and modding them, I welcome the idea. I think remakes at this stage in the Fallout series would accomplish 2 things; it would reintroduce the Fallout series to old fans such as me who cannot just load up 1 & 2 and play it would also introduce the series to new fans that aren't already connected to the game.
