Making a heightmap from scratch....

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 12:19 am

Ok I have been making this heightmap for a texture that I have made. It's going to be for some snakeskin I am working on atm. Is this the correct way to go about making the bumpmap for it?

It depents on how realistic you want that snakeskin to look. Procedural textures are good for all kinds of subdermal maps, subsurface scatterings and such, that can be used as base layer to fake skin or similar. but if you need something that is supposed to look like snakescales than take it from a picture of a snake. Nature already made it the perfect way. :)

Ahh ok! I could use both then for extra output to make it look unique. Cool! Thanks for the help!
