Making a map

Is there anyone that knows how to do something like that? To make a Dwarf Fortress map into a really pretty map like that one, or similar to the one.

http://df.magmawiki.com/index.php/DF2010:Legends on how the guy did it. But it might as well have been Egyptian to me.

I've never tried it before, but it doesn't sound too difficult. If you export the images like it says and post them here, I'll give it a shot.

Basically, you export a bunch of maps, and put them into an image editing program that can handle layers. Then you change some stuff on the layers around, and you have your fancy map.

Just put them on an image-hosting site?

@ Spork: Perhaps, but I'm [censored] when it comes to technofillythingamabobs.

Yeah, that should work.

Yeah you need to export and upload four images:

Elevations Including Lake and Ocean Floors
Elevation Respecting Water Level
Current Vegetation
Rainfall

Man, my upload speed was terrible, not to mention the errors. But I got the four maps.

The images seem to have suffered some sort of compression. Did DF export them as .jpg images or did you or photobucket convert them?

I'll need the uncompressed original images. (most likely in .png format)

They were exported as bitmaps, and photobucket converted them to jpgs, I guess. I'll reupload them.

EDIT: Or maybe it's because I gave you direct links. Is there a certain kind of linking that would retain their original format?

Try uploading them here:

No, direct links are the proper links to give. Bitmap images are so large that some sites downscale their resolution or compress them.

If image sharing sites are messing up the images, you could just put them into a WinRAR archive and upload it on http://www.4shared.com/.

I don't think that's gonna work. Can't even upload. Sits at 0%. That or the site doesn't do anything, and I can click upload forever.

I'll try 4shared.

EDIT: I'll upload the archive tomorrow. My internet is basically giving me the bird right now, and it won't upload anything anywhere.
