Making an NPC without a compass marker...

Is it possible to make an NPC that does not show up on the compass? I am having parts where you walk into a hallway, or a room or whatever, and a 'ghost' appears in front of you for a few moments, then disapears or walks around a corner then is gone. I would love it if he did not show up on your compass as a green line. Is this possible? It will be alright if he does I guess, but I would really like to find a way to make him not show. Is there an kind of special tickbox, or script command I can use to make this happen?

I know there is a command something to the extent of "Ref.SetGhost 1" I know it makes them immune to damage (Useful for an NPC like the thief in Great White North) But I'm not sure what it does to the tick marker. MAybe if the player is not in combat set their perception to 0 temporarily. I'd do this by adding a spell effect with something like -20 Perception.
