Making Oblivion as High-End as possible

Post » Thu Oct 13, 2011 4:37 am

Hello everyone, I just reinstalled Oblivion on a new machine so I can actually experience some of the amazing mods people have out there, the only problem is I am totally lost as to where to start! I am looking for ONLY things that replace graphics/textures and things that make it run better as well as utilities. Nothing that changes gameplay.

So where should I stat? I just want to first make the game as beautiful as possible and as bug free as can be. Something that will really stress the limits of my system before Skyrim and such comes out. Thanks for your help everyone!

I have already got:
Wire Bash
OMM
OBSE
BOSS

Also please note I have the Steam version of the game,

PC Specs:
I7-2600k
Nvidia GTX 580
6Gig Ram
Soundblaster Titanium Sound Card

First step should be OBGE:

http://obge.paradice-insight.us/wiki/Main_Page

Get yourself some nice shaders they are all on the OBGE wiki, Luminance HDR is nice too (in the OBGEv3 TESNexus files at the bottom, it says WIP but it works fine for me).

Then ofcourse Liquid Water since you have OBGE.

Also check out my complete modded guide for all the Visual Enhancements: http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1232576-complete-modded-oblivion-installation-guide/

Edit: You can also find link to the Godrays version 6 on there, fixes an issue with the one that comes with OBGE Standalone Effects package.

First step should be OBGE:

Yes, indeed.

Also, http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1213147-oblivion-the-beautiful/, as the saying goes. More textures than you can poke a http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=5738 at!

It is also well worth checking http://tescosi.com/wiki/Main_Page out. One useful thing, just for example, is this handy guide to http://tescosi.com/wiki/Oblivion:Stabilization_and_Optimization_Mods#FPS_and_Memory_Management. Both of those, tweaked to work together and not mess with graphics, are highly recommended. Along with Fast Exit 2, actually.

edit: InsanitySorrow's texture replacers are very high quality. As I am not sure whether they are listed in the thread I linked to above, I thought it was worth mentioning them. They can be found at http://tesalliance.org/forums/.

The OP has a GTX 580, so it is THE high-end card at the mo. That coupled with a i7-2600k, he has a really good system.
That said, Oblivion will still bring your system down to a crawl as the engine is not optimized for multi-core systems. Make sure you get Oblivion Stutter Remover (OSR) if you decide to add NPC-adding mods (e.g. Better Cities, FCOM), high-end texture mods (QTP3Redim etc.), and distant LOD mods (RAEWVD+TES4Lodgen etc.)

PS: It is Wrye Bash. If you misspell, the monkey God (Wrye) will smite you! ;)

Will do. The only other thing I was wondering, is say I go with the list of mods in the Oblivion the Beautiful page, how do I know which ones are compatible with others?
