Making own spells

Post » Sat Jul 17, 2010 7:23 am

Greetings!
I have a question which very much disturbs me.
Can we still create own combinations of spells in Skyrim, by altars for example, or in another way?

I wonder that too. The fact that they listed specific spell names on the skill screen, and now apparently have some automatic spell combination based on putting different spells in your hands would seem to work against that. But who knows? It would be a real shame to lose it.

I really got the feeling there will only be several non-custom spells that will level up with you.
I hope I'm wrong.

Why wouldn't there be? Morrowind and Oblivion had it, so I'm sure Skyrim will have spell making also

Agree. I would :brokencomputer: my Xbox 360 if there's not spellmaking!

I have the same feeling, from the UI section of GI 85 magic spells in all. Possible excuse for removal of custom spells: You can have a different spell assigned to each hand, what more could you possibly want?

Edit:
In fact, at the moment I'm struggling to convince myself that there will even be a Mages Guild.

but now we have "dual spelling" by both hands, and I can not image how it will work with making own spelling,
I mean, usually we make hard spell which takes all our ''mana" ("magic"), so, for what it can be demanded second hand?

It is difficult to explain what exactly I mean (because English not my native language) :brokencomputer:

I am just afraid that with "dual spells" will replace ability to create own spells. After all possibility to do a spell both hands already means possibility to combine, though and only 2 spells.

Worry no more, Pete said to me there are 85 effects and not pre-set spells. So it's very likely spell making is back.

Excellent. This dispels my biggest fear about Skyrim. Here's to the third generation of Elder Scrolls games!

I'm positive that spell making will make a return. It is a very important part of the game for any person who plays a mage type character. Just because we have dual wield spell does not mean that spell making is gone and I can not imagine how anyone could logically connect those two dots. Creating spells that use all of the PC's magicka is not Bethesda's problem it is the players problem. Solution? Don't make uber magicka svcking spells.

Mages Guild may not make a return, at least not as the huge main mages guild that we have seen in previous games. Since this is Skyrim we should expect to see less Imperial influences mean we will very likely have a Nordic alternative to the fighters and mages guilds. Although I do not doubt that there could possibly be some small Imperial settlements in the game that would house a mages/fighters guild.

That being said I expect to see new ways of spell making. Possibly even allowing the player to create new spells without the need of a spell making alter (OB style) or a spell making NPC (MW style)

Ou, it's very good news! Thank you for answer.

For me - spellmaking is one of the distinctive feature of TES and it will be so sad to lose it...

I kind of hope not.

It's easier to put in cool spell effects when you don't have to make them all generic enough to be customized.

I see what you mean. When players make spells, we usually make a really powerful spell that uses all of our magicka at once. Thus, dual wielding spells would not be an advantage.

My response to the strategy is that simultaneous casting of the same spell makes it more powerful than either alone (a bonus damage multiplier). If that is the case, I think some people will go the defense route and use the old method with a shield for blocking. The other people will make a spell that takes half their magicka so they can be more offensive.

Do you mean pretty graphics? I think only fire/frost/shock damage have been mentioned so far.

Considering the mages guild doesn't even exist anymore...

Yes, I very much hope spell making isn't as difficult to perform as it was in Oblivion.

They are just named spells. http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Spells. Well ice spike, was probably ice bolt.

I can see "standard" spell name change in 200 years, though.
