Making a shield-bash warrior?

Post » Thu Dec 08, 2011 8:53 pm

Basically I'm thinking of weilding a shield in one hand, fast heal in the other with the resto perk that heals stamina as well as health, and shield bashing furiously to kill things. Also stacking stamina regen on all my gear that its applicable for to get more bashes. Or actually just stack straight stamina enchants. Not sure how to go about it.

Thoughts? Comments? I can see this being low DPS so being only viable on Adept on lower difficulty, but it sounds fun maybe

Instead of asking us if its "viable", why don't you make one and see how it turns out.

Experimenting like that is the fun of the game.

That will get old -very- quickly, I'd think. Also, have fun with things that don't stagger.

That's simply why i love this game because its infinite in possibilities, you should do it if that's what you want to do.
Viability i see you shouldn't have any problem especially with resto heal spells/wards you wont die, killing things could take longer then usual though.

I actually have everything you described and use it sometimes. I feel it is pretty cheap to do it since it makes fight so easy but it's definitely viable :P

My normal combat tactic is as follows.

1. Throw my alteration shield spell.
2. Summon an antronach.
3. Keep blocking my enemies attacks healing myself if I lose any decent amount of health using shield bash to make room to heal if I need and to keep my enemies focused on me rather than my antronach.

Got a mace but I rarely use it and have zero perks in it.

Shield bash does hardly any damage. Even power bash does not compare to a weapon.

But restoration does go with sword & board nicely. just switch your weapon/spell/shield around.

Thats why im thinking id have to maybe lower the difficulty to get it where my shield slams do more than crap DPS

Also, how exactly does power bash calculate its damage?

Do you have the perk that makes shield bashing do 5 times more damage and the power bash perk ?

My Dragonbone shield does more damage when I perform a power bash when I have all the Block perks than my fully upgraded through smithing Ebony mace when I do a power attack with no perks in one handed.

It probably uses stamina and armor rating of the target you are bashing i assume, but i cannot confirm that.

Does anyone know what power bash uses to calculate its damage? If I could figure that out I could make this viable maybe.

Does it really matter ? It's still viable. Heck I can kill dragons, bears, giants, anything. Using shieldbashing + using fast heals with the rengenerate stamina from healing perk.

The bash becomes obslote once you get the final ability in the block perks, that might be, quite possibly, the most godly ability in the game (and the most fun as well).

I love tossing Snow Trolls off montain cliffs with that.

Becuase if I could figure out what it bases its damage off of, I could focus on that to make it more powerful?

I am playing as a paladin and do exactly as you described, I do also have a mace and some onehanded skill so I switch depending on the situation. But its definitely fun to have infinite bashes (unles your run out of mana that is).

Make sure to get to the Lord stone and activiate it, also you want to get points in Alteration for more defense. Leveling block goes fast enough, just found a foe thats not to tough and have him hit your block and heal when you need to. I do this every now and then so that my block stays in par with other skills. Just keep in mind that if you always block your heavy armor does not increase so I also let one foe beat on me and heal and let so that my heavy armor increases).

It's possible. But you would haft to focus pretty much completely on Stamina AND have plenty of stamina potions on you. And it wouldn't be worth much until you got deep into bashing perks.

Not Really, if you get the perk that lets your heals refil your stamina you pretty much can keep bashing, you just have to fast heal in between (which you probably need to anyway). I would say put 2 in health 1 in Magicka and 1 in Stamina every 4 levels.
