Making someone Mezzable?

Post » Mon Mar 14, 2011 2:05 pm

So, I'm sure you've all seen my absolute hatred toward James Hargrave. I'm trying to make it so I can Mezz him and send him to live in Paradise Falls. I just want him to move. Permanently. I've chosen the "MS13CanMez" Faction Package but when I go in game and Mezz him he turns hostile and just runs away. Am I missing an AI Package or script that goes behind this? Or is it hardcoded I can't make him Mezzable? I've looked through some of the other NPC's that are mezzable and I am not seeing anything that runs in the background after they are mezzed; unless I am missing something completely. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Oh, and no I did not choose the wrong CanMez package.

My guess?
You placed the faction on James in a mod AFTER you met him in your saved game. The faction will not stick to him since he will be loaded from your saved game file, which overwrites any mod file.

As far as making somebody mezzable, I have not researched that, so it could just as well be something not set up correctly.

I didn't think of that. I honestly don't see how its not setup correctly as every NPC I look at that is mezzable either has in tehir faction list "MS13CanMez" or the "MS!#ALwaysMez" and nothing more. Man, the the only way I can see if this works is to start a new game, and make my way to RC.

Still fairly new to the GECK but as far as I can see the npc needs to be in the MS13CanMez faction.

If the problem is the game save overwriting the mod file I can see 2 or 3 possible solutions.

Modify the MS13MezzedScript to add a condition to see if the npc is James, modify his script to add him to the MS13CanMezFaction (not sure how well that would work) or possibly put a script somewhere else that adds him to the faction.

As I said, still fairly new to this so I cannot provide much more help beyond this or say which is the best of the 3 methods I've described but I definitely think 1 of the 3 methods are the way forward.

You should be able to use the console to add him to the faction.

So, basically I've already added James to the CanMez faction in the GECK now all I have to do is open the console click on him and type "Add Faction"?

I also just started a new game with FWE Alternate start and began my life as a slaver starting at Paradise Falls so I could get the Mesmatron but to get from PF to RC on FWE's hardcoe mode was proving quite difficult just to test a mod out. lol....

Actually, good call, I was looking at it purely from a modding standpoint, rather than simple game play.

AddToFaction MS13CanMez 0 in console should work.

He shouldn't even need any alterations in the GECK for this to work.

Yes, but I actually want to make a mod for those who hate both Tammy and James Hargrave. If my saved game is causing the mod not to work is there another permanent way to get it to work through the GECK. Perhaps through a script like was suggested earlier?

Ok, so I just tested the mod with a new game and having never met James Hargrave it still did not work.

Also adding the faction through the command line did not work either. I'm starting to think this may not be possible to do.

It might be because he's a kid. Does the same technique work on his mother?

You might need to create a custom, non-playable race that's a copy of the Caucasian child race, but isn't marked as a child.

According to the wiki yes, his mother is mezzable. And you may be right. It may be because he is a kid. So, I guess my only other option is to do like you said, copy him but make him an advlt as opposed to a child. I'll go try that and let you know how I make out.

Fixed the issue with the game crashing. But making a new NPC based off of a mezzable James isn't panning out. I'm still having the same issues.

I may just scrap this idea cause I can't seem to get it working.

Well, I didn't mean make a new NPC, just make a new race (a copy of the Caucasian Child race, and edit it so that it's not considered a child race) and change the race of the existing NPC to that race.

Ok, I'll try that later. I had almost taken the "ChildGeneric" class and duplicated and changed it to an advlt somehow but it was late and I was getting frustrated so I put the mod in my backups folder. I'm going to try what you are saying again tonight. I'll let you know how I make out with it.

Well, I don't think it is possible to make a child mezzable. I've changed the class. It didn't work. Put the class back, changed the race. Still didn't work. Tried to add all of the "MS13CanMezz" packages and it still doesn't work. I'm going to try one more thing and if it doesn't work, I'm going to forget about this. Unless someone else has a better idea?
