Actually, I should have phrased my question differently - I didn't mean strong as in literally high in strength, but just a solid, good character with balanced leveling.
I understood that. My reference to strength was in relation to the build I was discussing. High Strength is important to characters that wear heavy armor and wield melee weapons.
Not quite sure what you mean by "balanced" levelling though. Oblvion favors unbalanced levelling. Level all major skills equally and you'll have a poor character for quite awhile because he won't be good at anything. In addition the system rewards minor skill increases with good attribute raises, in addition to getting to use the minor skills you've rather painstakingly acquired.
What you'll find to be a strong build depends largely on your personal gaming preferences and habits. So learn how the system works then decide how you want to work it. There's many different methods and all of them are valid.
General guide lines: Health matters. Raising Endurance +5 at each level up is the best way to have it. In addition, if you train Armorer +5 each level you'll also get it to 50, which allows you to repair magic weapons and armor. Using these is one of the best ways to strengthen most character types. Learning basic magic in all schools is another way. That doesn't mean any of them have to be major skills. You "pay" for the easy increases to major skills by levelling your character. Gaining levels in Oblvion means fights get harder. If the skills you gained didn't increase your character's combat ability that's a bad thing. Increasing major skills like Security, Mercantile and Speechcraft and Alchemy can add up to a very bad character. You can't talk, buy or "pick" your way out of combat!
